let me preface this by saying i admire every single vidder out there for having the talent and patience to edit such beautiful videos. in case anyone wonders why i love doing lyric gifsets so much, it’s because i sadly lack the time and patience to do fanvids instead. it’s a tedious work. anyways, i tried collecting my favourites and am excited to discover some new ones i haven’t seen before.
“knocking on heaven’s door” (tumblr post) by @a-heart-of-kyber. starting with my all time favourite rebelcaptain video out there. seriously guys, it’s so good, the timing, the colouring, the chosen scenes, the music - it works so well. i could watch it over and over again if it didn’t make me feel like crying so much.
“all is lost, hope remains” by ruby@youtube. this song!!! i mean, what could be more fitting? i mean, when it says “there’s a light” and it shows cassian after his proposal speech? this is amazing. “taking all shattered ones” (rogue one getting ready to fight), “to the place we belong” (cassian telling her “welcome home”) and “and his love will conquer all” (cassian and jyn smiling at each other shortly before landing on scarif) - this couldn’t get any better. (except that there’s even scenes from the original trilogy at end. just watch it, please.)
“unsteady” (tumblr post) by @aussyangel. when the chorus sets in, i’m getting goosebumps. i love how the scenes fade out and into each other and the text from the novelization at the end. this just feels epic.
“easier” (tumblr post) by @dealingdreams. i love how this focuses on their post-eadu argument and shows the development of their relationship after this. the effects are great, the scenes fit the lyrics amazingly well.
“wildest dreams” by @imaginaerumx. you know, manips are difficult, gif manips are harder, but making a whole video like this? it’s a whole new level of amazing. the scenes fit really well and quite a few would give me ideas for a couple of new gifs ngl.
“fading lights” (tumblr post) by @finnandors. yet another great manip video. i love the scenes used from criminal. i’d love to see this movie.
“somebody to die for” by the dark light@youtube. this song fits them so well. i love the colouring and the editing.
“anchor” by @mlfoydraco. the colouring is so vibrant and the video so well-timed. great editing. the voiceovers are so well done, especially towards the end.
“flares” by @fandoms-are-united. the timing on this is perfect, the lyrics and movie scenes perfectly matched. i love how each chorus starts with them looking at each other.
“forest fires” by @dealingdreams. another great one. lovely colouring, amazing editing. i love how this starts with “trust goes both ways” and ends with “welcome home”. it’s so... them.
