Alcove Avenue Project Needing More Support
The Lubbock Metropolitan Planning Organization (LMPO) is seeking public support for the Alcove Avenue project, which is located between 66th Street and the Marsha Sharp Freeway. Alcove is currently one of the top-ranked projects for MPO funding in the coming years. However, without documented public support, the project's top ranking could be at risk of being lost. The City of Wolfforth is sponsoring the project, and individuals can provide their support and feedback by contacting the MPO. The deadline for providing support is July 18, and the project sponsor is the City of Wolfforth. While there is no guarantee that Alcove will remain ranked as high as it is, with public support, the chances are better than without it.

In the early 1900s, Swedish tree sculptor Axel Erlandson planted “The Basket Tree.” Actually, this is a bit of a misnomer, as it is a collection of six different Sycamore trees that have been grafted together. In the late 1940s, Erlandson opened a roadside oddity attraction containing 20-30 tree sculptures. Today, they have been transplanted and are on display at Gilroy Gardens amusement park in California. See more: http://bit.ly/17u0NMo Photo credit: Image credit: jpeepz via flickr
