Little doodle of mama and grub!
I was feeling a little demotivated so just decided to play with some simple colours and textures after a sweltering day on the farm!

Hooray! New Treefeller reference real!
I still have so much yapping to do about these guys but here are some life cycle and herd relationship basics, hehe! There is some information also available on their old reference, but visually this is a much more accurate depiction of my squishy cowbugs, hehe!
If you have any questions about them feel free to ask, I’m always happy to talk about them and the ranch, hehe!
First try at a 3D model - for a few hours work and with no 3D experience at all I'm actually pretty happy with this! A little grub! Albeit missing some legs and a splash of colour!
I'm hoping with enough practice I can emulate the OW in-game style for hearthians!
And maybe even make them as custom skins. Hehe.
Maybe.
Work in progress of some logo ideas for the Feller Ranch family featuring some simplified Feller bust designs! Unsure which I prefer but still have lots of elements to add like text, borders etc. before we’re all done!
Why do I need a logo? Well it's for this one tiny detail on young adult Pip's jacket. That's it, LOL.
Calling it a day with this little guy now.
For my first sculpt I’m super happy with the actual shapes, I learnt how to UV unwrap and paint using a UV mesh also which I’m quite proud of.
Lots of things I would do differently next time though, like - there are lots of little holes in the sculpt which I didn’t notice until after I’d started painting; also didn’t realise I had used certain textures on some parts of the sculpt and not others, and finally - I know now you want to have the entire sculpt with textures and lighting finalised before UV unwrapping to paint, as it’s near impossible to do it once the UV is rewrapped!
All in all though, this was super fun and I’m super excited to keep trying with 3D stuff!

how does a treefeller become a matriarch? is it with age? some sort of change based on pheremones/hormones/something? is it a genetic thing?
Howdy Gem, thank you for your ask on my buggies!
Great question! It's mainly to do with experience and herd relationships. Of course, Fellers don't "vote" in a leader, but the older and more experienced a Cow, the more likely they are to know good grazing routes or be able discern between promising Bulls and those that may be too aggressive or undesirable, as such earning trust from the herd. Very similar to Elephant herd dynamics.
Matriarchs do not breed once they mature, and as such do not produce honeydew. The hormonal changes that cause this also prompts the physiological changes in their crests, the development of more contrasting markings and the ability to put on weight and fat much more readily, similar to the Bulls.
Any adult Cow can mature into a Matriarch, but it's down to experience and often wisdom that comes with age! Matriarchs can also be demoted should their behaviour or decisions endanger the herd. When this happens, something interesting can occur - in that an ousted Matriarch can actually become a Bull-morph! Rare, but not unheard of!
But, this is straying into reproductive cycles now, which I have much much more to yap about in the near future, hehe!
Thank you for your ask, Gem! I'm very excited to share more about these guys as I've had so much fun making them!
