Raoul had just started work that morning; the sun had not yet risen and there was a dreamy mist blended into the cool winter atmosphere. He was happy to be working in a coffee shop -- the warmth would overpower the air and there were wonderful smells all around.

The early morning shift ran from four-thirty to seven, then his fellow coworkers would show up to help out with the seven-eight o’clock rush.

For that first half hour Raoul was alone; he bought himself a coffee and started to take a sip when a customer walked in.
