i truly believe that starfleet is scared of julian rather than feeling sorry for him. and that he only was allowed to keep his job because as a starfleet officer, he's being tracked. and he has other starfleet ppl around who could theoretically put him down if he snaps. he's not gonna. but that fear is there. deep down, julian has that fear too

some time ago i was thinking about how garak is 24 years older than julian. and it occured to me that garak is likely, ideally, going to die decades before him. and julian performing the autopsy. taking apart the man he loved. holding the heart in his hands, gently, reverently. this cold, ugly, brown chunk of meat that once beat so fast for him

the body isn't him, not really. but its what we live our lives in. hearts that quicken, arms that hold each other... lips that spoke a million lies and hundreds of truths, and everything in between

then julian sets the heart aside in the tray. real. mundane. professional. garak isn't there. julian feels the painful throb of his own heart beating

#sometimes i like to bludgeon people with the fact that im not all jokes and memes and sex talk #i will use a heart as a symbol of a person's being even though the soul is kept in the brain. i'm only human #hearts react to our emotions so obviously and can fit in our hands...#autopsies arent done on people who die of old age but like #this concept is so tragic and romantic in a bittersweet way #heartbreak and love coupled with the visceral reality of death and decay #the mental image of julian holding garak's heart in his hands is gonna stay with me. like gosh if that doesn't sum it all up #and oh the inherent tragedy of loving somebody so much older than you #yeah uh. my mum dying had an influence on this. i mean the part about sentimental feelings about the body after death #its not literally them anymore but they did spent their entire lives in that body so it means a lot #i remember thinking about that when i looked at my mums body... she hugged me with those arms. she talked to me through that face #i never understood respect for dead bodies until she died. i couldn't wrap my head around it because person = soul. but yeah i get it now #anyways. whether you believe in the afterlife or not (i certainly do)... the people we love live on within us #and thats part of what i wanted to get across here #tho i did freeform this. i had the gist in my head but. yeah. this post has been a long time coming. like a few months #well! i broke my own heart a dozen times over #trek headcanons #autopsies //#medical //

thinking about how the temperature and humidity on cardassia can get so severe that it enters into This Could Kill Julian territory. so perhaps julian takes the summer months off to stay inside with the environmental controls set to human comfy

and of course i mean, garak literally won't let him leave their house

#i've been tempted lately to just switch over to calling rom she/her without elaborating #but i got nervous for some reason #but now i have elaborated i think i'll just go for it #it makes sense it would take so long for roms egg to crack given the society she grew up in #she'll get there eventually. and leeta would be just. the best person to have your life for that #leeta has such a queer friendly aura. she'll probably throw a party #and nog has two moogies!!! two of them!!!#trek headcanons

jokes aside, i really do think both julian and garak have suicidal tendencies

#with garak it manifests in a ''my life is worthless and i don't make plans for the future'' way #(add an unhealthy dollop of fascistic I Belong To Lady Cardassia self-objectification to the mix)#and with julian he's so self-sacrificing in a way that it can easily be chalked up to heroism (and it is that too!)#...but he's also over compensating for the imposter - the monster - the abomination - he feels he is deep inside #genuinely i do think both of them have made attempts...#their teenage years specifically... must have been awful...#interestingly both julian and garak's self worth seems to tied to being Useful to other people #they have so much in common while still being different. it's so nourishing to chew on #trek headcanons
