Interview with Trekkie Trax Crew - Carpainter and Futatsuki - English translation
Full interview with Carpainter and Futatsuki of Trekkie Trax
Q: Tell us who you are and what you do
C: Hello, I’m Carpainter. I’m a Dj and I make club tracks.
F: Hello! My name is Futatsuki. I’m a dj and i’m in charge of event organizing, directing, managing and design pretty much everything Trekkie Trax related.
Q: Trekkie Trax is not only a label but a Dj crew is that correct?
C: Yeah, we mostly consist of Dj’s and producers
F: Myself included but I don’t make tracks.
Q: How did TTC get started?
C: About three or four years ago maybe... I met futatsuki and over time we just started throwing parties. I was djing and we saw we could do something with this.
Q: What made you become interested in creating music?
C: I guess my roots are in club music. I used to listen to a lot of club music and I started making my own. What I was listening to at the time inspired me to want to make it too. I just really liked it and wanted to do it too. I have been listening to “bass music” along with my brother since about Junior High.
F: I don’t make music -_-
Q: But you dj!
F: Yeah...I guess i’ve always liked “weird” sounding music and when I got together with Seimei (Carpainter’s brother) I just started djing it. I don’t create music but i’ve always thought that djs were cool.
Q: Do you want to create music in the future?
F: Eh.. if I have time. I’m super busy right now.
Q: How did you get your name Carpainter?
C: There was a Nintendo Game called Mazuwa 2 and Carpainter was the name of the vilan from the game．
Q: How do you perform as “Trekkie Trax” crew with four djs? C: We play B2B, (back to back) when the four of us dj. We use samplers and we dj individually too but when three or four of us play together, it is like a festival. We all play when we want to. We don’t have a specific role.
Q: What is your opinion of the bass music scene in Japan?
F: I'm assuming music scene in Japan is centered around those who are interested in bass music from U.K. When we started Trekkie Trax, we were formed to spread those kind of classic base music to the young generation.
We were underage when we first began. Our young followers helped spread the word.
Q: What are your goals as Trekkie Trax Crew?
F: Seimei, a track maker, is now in San Francisco and he spread information of the Japanese bass scene and helped us understand what is going on in US. Our goal is to spread Japanese bass music overseas. Especially U.K and to U.S.
Q: So you want to spread your platform internationally?
F:Yes, I believe there was no opportunity like that in the past like it is now.
Q: What is your connection to Nina Las Vegas?
F: BBC Radio played my music two or three times. I was happy that famous radio station known around the world used my music.
Seimei contacted producer and Joseph the producer introduced is to Nina Las Vegas. Since she will be in town, we decided to have an event together.
Q: Any New Releases? Upcoming events and collaborations?
F: At the end of November, we are going to release EP with Kolak, a track maker from UK based in China. We are getting together to pump up Asia.
In December we are releasing a track from Elevation from an Atlanta trackmaker.
Other than that ... we are going to release a track every week till March.
December 4th is the party at Circus (Tokyo) with Nina LasVegas.
Other than Nina, all music will played by Trekkie Trax.
There will be Lucky Me Maltine Party in Tokyo.
We are planing to go to Korea, China and have a World tour.
Masayashoshi Iimori will go to the US for his first US tour in LA, San Francisco and Seattle in
December for two weeks.
