meeting Trent in a random cafe imagine
It was a late Thursday afternoon, you had just gotten out of class and all you wanted was your bed and a nice meal. You were wearing work out clothes (not because you were going to the gym but for the comfort). You ran quickly into the cafe down the block from your apartment building, smiling kindly at one of the two guys in Liverpool “getup” who held the door open for you.
You loved that about this city, everyone was so passionate about the Liverpool football club. Especially in this area being so close to Melwood. Everyone around you oozed with support, it is so different compared to the states. You wanted to support the team too but you honestly hadn’t had the time to look into it.
You politely waited behind the two guys and gazed at the menu, while they ordered. Once you finally settled on what you were going to order you listened in to the conversation between the guys and the cashier, slightly irritated. Because honestly how long does it take to order, you just wanted to go home. But you however kept that irritation at bay and continued to listen.
“Are you boys ready for the match on Saturday?” The cashier asked
“Yeah we should be Klopp has been working us quite hard these last few days” one of the boys answered, while the other just nodded his head.
“Arsenal’s a good team are you lads nervous?” The cashier asked
“We are prepared and ready to be back on the pitch it’s going to be a good match.” The other boy answered.
Really they are talking about football right now. You looked up at the ceiling trying to hide your irritation. “Oi mate why don’t you take her order and we’ll talk after?” He asked the cashier. You not fully paying attention did not realize that he was talking about you.
“Miss?” The cashier called out. You looked towards him and realized that he was talking to you and that the two boys had moved over so that you could place your order.
“Oh sorry.” You stepped forward to order, before moving to the side to wait for your food.
“American right?” One of the boys asked from besides you.
“Oh no how’d you figure that out” you replied sarcastically turning to look at which boy asked you that. Your reply made the boy with a small number 12 on his chest let out a snort. The boy who you now realized had a small number 66 on his chest, cheeks flushed a bit at your response.
“I mean yeah, I’m from New York. Sorry it’s been a long day” you said apologetically with a small smile when you realized you responded kind of rude.
“How’d a New Yorker end up all the way here?” He asked with a polite smile. He was kind of cute...actually really cute.
“You’re kind of nosey” you responded with a lift of one of your eyebrows.
“Sorry love I don’t mean to intrude- just curious is all, not a lot of Americans in town”
“It’s all good, it’s kind of cute. I’m here for school” you responded.
“Oi she’s smart and pretty” he said. You felt your whole face heat up.
“Thanks, so what are you guys professional soccer fans?” You paused and then corrected yourself “football fans?”. They both gave you a look.
“Sure yeah I guess you could call us that” the one with the 66 on his shirt replied with a laugh. “Oi mates your food is ready.” The cashier called from behind the counter. They grabbed their food and sat down at one of the few tables that were left unoccupied.
You were planning to take your food and leave but now you were reconsidering.
When you were called to grab your food, you decided you were going to eat here for a little bit. You found an empty table, one table away from the two guys. Sitting down at an angle so that you had a good view of number 66. You were eating and scrolling through your phone and occasionally looking at number 66 through the corner of your eye. You both made eye contact and he smiled in your direction. You quickly turned your head back to your phone, your cheeks warm. You heard a small voice from a young boy no older than nine.
“Hi Trent Hi Joe, I’m a really big fan! Can I get a picture with you both please?” You looked up from your phone to see what was going on. So their names were Trent and Joe. But how did the young boy know them? And why would he want a picture with them?
They both smiled at the kid before nodding and standing up from their seats to take a picture with the young boy. You smiled softly to yourself watching the encounter. The young boy smiled up at them, “thank you so much! Good luck in the match this weekend!” As he waved and ran back to his mom.
Good luck in the match this weekend...oh my god you are such an idiot. They were footballers. You laughed at yourself before turning to face 66.
“Hey number 66” you called out to him softly to get his attention.
“Yes love?” He responded cheekily.
“So I’m guessing you’re not professional football fans?”
“Not quite” He stood up from his seat shooting his friend a look before pointing at the chair in front of you silently asking you for permission to sit. You nod your head and wait for him to take his new seat.
“So Mr. 66, who are you?” You asked.
“I’m Trent and I am not a professional football fan.” He laughed
“Yeah I gathered. So you play for Liverpool?” You asked with a shy smile.
“Oh no how’d you figure that out?” He mocked he sarcastically. You placed your hands over your face and let out a laugh.
“Sorryyy I don’t know much about football.”
He cocked his head to the side and gave you a look. “Well love...if you’d like I can take you out to dinner and teach you all about it.” He asked shyly. “But in return I want to hear about New York.” You wanted to scream at how adorable he was.
“Yeah I would love that”
“Ok good, how’s Saturday night?” He asked.
“Saturday night is good.” You replied with a smile.
“Here give me your phone love.” You handed your phone over to him and watched him put his number in. He then called his phone and hung up.
“I’ll take to you later love, have a goodnight”
