I guess it's time to write about something I found in volume 2 of Misericorde. Spoilers for Chapter 25 I suppose
While going through the game's files, I came across this background
It's named ab_supesoffice_watcher in the files, and clearly depicts someone watching through the superior's window
If you were like me, you don't remember this background at all in game. I honestly thought that maybe it was just an unused background or something, as there are other unused backgrounds in the files. But since I was curious I decided to look at the actual code for if this was ever used
Turns out, it is used in game during chapter 25 (Urim), specifically after Hedwig shows the scapula closeup. Like me you probably would have remembered if someone started watching through the window during that scene, but the reason you can't see the background change is because the bishop is moved in front of the window to block the watcher
Here's the before and after of the scene, the fade out is also a black fade out so you wouldn't be able to see the bishop's sprite fade in and catch a glimpse of the background either. The background stays the same until the end of the scene.
Is this canon? I'm not exactly sure. But I'm also not sure if it should be completely disregarded. I don't think it's something that would be a mistake, as xeecee would have to not only make this background edit and then also change the background to it only after the scapula is shown (there's not really a reason to change the background at that point either, as the scapula is an image in front of the background) but then also move the bishop in front of the window to block the change.
So it seems someone is aware of Hedwig showing the scapula to the soup and bishop, as well as telling them other incriminating things about the other nuns. But I don't think anything really comes of this, none of the other nuns really act too differently (at least from what I remember), and since Hedwig, soup and the bishop go to the hospital immediately after this scene, there's no way to know what the other nuns were up to after. I suppose in Volume 3 we'll learn if anything comes of this, but I guess keep it in mind
Trepanning must be like being cucked for an evil spirit
Back in 2020 I decided to illustrate each chapter of Northern Lights, including the book cover which I updated last year as an A3 poster.
I recently finally had a break through and was able to design a cover for The Amber Spyglass, which will have a post made about it soon, but when sering the first and third books updated in A3... I caved and decided to also give the Subtle Knife a glow up!
Close ups! Including two fully legible letters from John Parry to Elaine
I decided to bring the blue from Northern Lights for Lyra's world at the top, and the Amber Spyglass colours for Will's world's opening under the hornbeam trees.
Below are the first two versions of the covers, with the right side one being from all the way back in 2021 which I was never really happy with. The left is the redraw I did only last year, which is a5 (Quarter of the size of the poster version) which i do still love but just didn't fit right with the rest.
I do feel incredibly proud of myself for pushing and creating something so cool, and can't wait to see all 3 on my wall <3
"Is them his brains, doctor?"
Crew members aboard the HMS Surprise watch with morbid curiosity as Ship's Surgeon Dr. Stephen Maturin treats their mate, Joe Plaice, for a brain injury by cutting a hole in his skull.
Imagine trepanning from a weevil with a big as fuck rostrum
