Master Marshmallow, Storyteller Extraordinaire, Presents: More Fun With Fossils!
Master Marshmallow: “Hello again, ladies and gentleroots! I’m back with you today to share a few more of my human’s fossils. They are both beautiful and educational, so let’s get started, shall we?”
Master Marshmallow: “Here we have some interesting fossils that have been carved into a decorative piece right out of the rock they were discovered in. They are the fossilized remains of prehistoric squid-like creatures called orthoceras. When alive long ago, they looked something like this...”
Master Marshmallow: “Imagine that! Thank you to a vast storehouse of great knowledge known as Wikipedia for that last image. Now this next piece is called a trilobite.”
Master Marshmallow: “To me, it looks like a wee horseshoe crab, and of course horseshoe crabs share ancient relatives with trilobites.”
Master Marshmallow: “Fascinating, isn’t it? But this next one is my favorite because of all the detail and vibrant colors in its shell. It is called an ammonite, a nautilus type of creature.”
Master Marshmallow: “On the left, the shell has been removed to reveal the crystallized and fossilized remains of the creature inside, and on the right, the opalescent nacre of the creature’s shell is visible. Simply amazing! Do you have any fossils you would like to share? Send in your fossil photos and I will do my best to identify them!”
