Guess who just got to go to his first trick class!

We've been practicing our tricks for our upcoming Trick Dog test.

Ollie will be expected to perform 10 behaviors selected from the list the AKC offers. Novice tricks are all pretty simple, with all of them being behaviors that I taught Ollie in his first year of life. So we're really just brushing up on skills he already has.

The tricks we plan to use are: retrieving a ball from 10 feet, getting in and sitting in a box, getting on a low platform, high-fiving and shaking hands, push-ups (sit->down transitions), spinning in a circle, nose targeting my hand, and planting a kiss on my cheek.

Should be a piece of cake!

Somehow she managed to get first place Q. I think everyone else also flunked this morning.

They both flunked it again. Topaz was too stressed and wasn’t listening. Marceline was totally checked out which to be fair is typical for her at a second run. So I should stop entering her in two. Anyway there’s no more Tricks trials until next year so no titles for us until then.

One qualification each in Tricks this morning! Marcie came 2nd and Topaz came 3rd. Especially happy with Topaz as this was her first time at this venue.

For the second trial Topaz had a little spat with another dog before going in the ring so she was very stressed. Barked at me a lot and couldn’t complete the Circle Handler trick so we NQ’d. Marcie completely checked out for her second attempt so I withdrew her. But the first trial their scores were 58.5/60 for Marcie and 58/60 for Topaz. ☺️
