Is it normal to have panicky reactions to just the thought/mention of certain books or movie titles/characters? Like I keep seeing the names of certain pieces of media and I feel a spike of fear down my back and a cloying urge to cry/throw up at the back of my throat. Anyone got any tips for dealing with this, I can’t just avoid books/films altogether?
Hey tumblr I'm seriously asking for help on this one. I really care about my roommate and I'm starting to realize that he gets really bad anxiety about stuff sometimes like today I drove him to the store so he could get food and bottled water because he just couldn't calm down and I sat and talked with him and got him calm and we ended up joking around and laughing and he seemed like himself again and we ended up talking about like our exes and stuff and I told him about how one of my exes died in a rock climbing accident and he freaked out and said "I have to go to bed right now" and ran to his room. Idk if I triggered something or what but it was a total personality change.. I don't know guys I'm kind of worried about him and I've never known anyone before who gets really bad anxiety and I just wanted to know if anybody had any advice for me? Like a. How to deal with him b. how to calm him down and c. How to keep him happy when I can? I really, really care about this kid I hate watching him get upset. Any help/advice I can get I'd appreciate. Thanks, tumblr.
Hey so I don't know if this is common knowledge or whatever but there's this site that could potentially be of use for checking if a movie you want to see could be triggering. The site is kids-in-mind.com it's original purpose was for parents taking kids to movies that aren't rated G or PG but it's actually pretty good bc it categorizes the "warnings" (gore/violence, sexual themes, language, etc.) and may be good for finding out if it'll be triggering, but they don't use character names in the descriptions so it won't give away too much plot.
does anyone have any recommendations for dealing with triggers you can't avoid but know are coming? i have to read a book for class that i know ends with a big trigger of mine and i need to finish it so i can write an essay that's a third of my grade.
Hello! I need help with something. This request goes out to anyone who has watched Orange Is The New Black. PLEASE READ BELOW.
Hi there. My name is Summer and I am heavily interested in watching OITNB, but I have some questions about the show. I have PTSD and anxiety disorder, a nasty, but fairly manageable combination. I have a semi-short list of triggers, but my biggest one (and the one I think will actually be present in the show) is vomit.
Throw up (seeing it and hearing the process) sends me immediately into a panic attack. I am unable to see puke coming out of someone's mouth and I am also unable to see it if there are drippings or if there is a pile of it somewhere.
My questions for anyone who has watched the show are:
Is there vomit in the show? When?
If a specific character does throw up, who is it and when do they do it?
Can you see the vomit happening? Can you hear it?
Is there any one episode I should avoid?
Any and all feedback is appreciated. I understand if you do not have specific times for the incidents, but general episodes to look out for are more helpful than you would think. I am very interested in this program and I refuse to let my mental illness rule all of my life.
Thanks! -ST
