Tripe
Tripe is the stomach of ruminating animals (cattle, lamb, venison, buffalo, etc). It is rich in amino acids, digestive enzymes, and gastric juices. Raw tripe also contains essential fatty acids Omega 3 and 6 and lactobacillus acidophilus. It also contains partially digested grasses and grains. There are 3 types of tripe: bleached, cleaned, and green. Green tripe is also referred to as "unbleached" tripe since it has not been altered. Bleached tripe is the most common in grocery stores. It is white in colour and has been thoroughly cleansed. Washed tripe is grey, has had the contents removed, and has only been lightly rinsed. Green tripe has the contents removed and has not been washed at all. It is the most natural form because it has not been altered. It is also the only kind you should feed your dog.
Green tripe can be a little more difficult to find than bleached. There are some companies that sell green tripe in a can, such as Tripett. This is the brand that I give to Oliver. It smells like rotten barn, but most dogs love it, so if you can get past the smell it is a great addition to a raw diet (though not necessary)
