7. Your favorite ship and why ?
I started out as a diehard BlackIce shipper, but now? I think I’d go with either Blacksand or the OT6. Blacksand appeals to MANY of my ship aesthetics and has so so so so SO many possibilities; see the 8000 blacksand aus tags for proof of that 😉 while the OT6 is just one fantastic poly group of such amazing personalities.
Nightmare Galleon comes as a close runner-up tho, bc really, who doesn’t love that inherent juxtaposition of personalities and appearances smushed into some naughty naughty places? 😁😁😁 I still remember that one fantastic fic where they broke the bed frame after going at it so hard and so often - it left such an impact I had a brief mention of it in one of my NDU fics!
8. Do you believe there will be a sequel/prequel one day ?
As much as I would love to believe that one would come up, whether 2D a la the Rapunzel series, or a full-fledged movie... I’m not holding my breath.
Hell, Megamind, which was more financially successful than ROTG (and left more of an impact as a whole on the general public, compared to ROTG where Jack Frost was most remembered due to Elsa shipping) barely got a ten minute short from Dreamworks after it hit theaters. While there was recently a notice from William Joyce tied to the possibility of more material, I don’t really see anything new coming about any time soon, unless it’s another book he releases.
Even then I’d be a little worried about Pitch in it - the movie did such a wonderful job creating these characters as flawed, imperfect, and relatable, INCLUDING Pitch. And given the recent takes from Joyce on his own Boogeyman, and how his character developed throughout the book series from a villain with a tragic and horrifying fate forcibly thrust upon him, to more of a muahahaha one-dimensional villain? I would be very worried on how that would affect Pitch’s characterization (not to mention some of the other... interesting choices Joyce made with his characters, *cough* Nightlight and Jack Frost *wheeze* Katherine *cough cough*).
One of my minor pet peeves with the fandom after the film came out was the reliance of Pitch as a one-note villain, when the script and the film showed a more tragic, well-rounded character that we were meant to sympathize with, given his many parallels with Jack (and gods bless the animation team for given such incredible nuance to him via facial expressions and body language). There’s so much to dig into on all sides, exploring possible Doylist and Watsonian explanations for these characters and their place in this world, and Pitch is certainly no exception to this rule. I tended to avoid the ‘muahaha i’m so eeeeevil just bc I’m dark and eeeeeevil in nature evil evil eeeeeeeeeeeevil’ Pitch fics for this reason - it bugged me to see, and I just had no interest in them.
IF something does come out tho, I will see it, no arguments barred. It’s an amazingly gorgeous and creative film with some fantastic characters in them, and I would happily see anything/everything else with them.
But I think I would prefer a sequel, or a sequel tv series - better chance of Pitch Redemptionish shenanigans 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
