Journey to Trip: Week 27
27 weeks is a huge milestone for our little one. Praise the lord, there are so many good things to report on!
For starters, last weeks ultrasound gave us another great look at Trips little face. A better 3d image than weeks past, again I fell in love all over. Ultrasound said Trip is measuring a week or two ahead, closed cervix, ample fluid and working organs. Again AMEN.
Measuring ahead by nearly two weeks was a bit concerning, only because a large growth spirt can signal the onset of Gestational Diabetes. This prompted my Doc to ask that I stay at the hospital and take a one hour glucose screening. YUCK. Any moms out there know this stuff taste nasty, but I was more than happy to drink it up and have my blood drawn. I passed, no GD! I asked my MFM (Maternal Fetal Medicine Doc) and she explained to me that babies grow in different ways, growth sprits do happen and as long as one body portion is not 4x greater than another and GD has been ruled out it just means we will be having a big baby! This did make me chuckle a bit. I have been praying since the day I found out we were pregnant that our baby Boy/Girl would be chunky! Both our girls are tiny ladies, never one roll, never any chubby toes, no nooks and crannies to clean.... ok thats a little much but who does not love a chubby baby?!!! Am I right?!! Trip will be measured weekly at my ultrasounds from here on out and we will keep an eye on both weight and length measurements.
I am happy to report Trip has officially passed the weight of His/Her big sister Saige at her time of delivery. Trip is around 2.12lbs currently. When I had Saige prematurely at 27 weeks, over 6 years ago she was 2.2lbs. A little Mr.Magoo looking squirrel girl came out and changed my life for the better. My first love. When I was admitted to L&D a few weeks ago and told I was in the pre stages of labor all the fear and trauma of the past with Saige came flooding back. The anxiety has been paralyzing at times. In my heart of hearts I am not sure how well I would have handled having a baby born earlier and smaller than Saige was. Emotionally and physically unable to wrap my mind around another micro-preemie. I made a goal to make it these past few weeks keeping baby Trip safe inside, safely growing and developing properly. WE MADE IT!
TMI WARNING---- My cervix is holding up at roughly 2.5cm in length. I had a cervical check and internal exam to make sure the Pessary is in place and holding things properly. All is well. MFM is happy with our progress so far and has allowed me to take the next 4 weeks off of cervical exams! Woohoooo, nobody like that nonsense anyways. This is for two reasons,
1.) Many cervical changes will take place from my current 28 weeks to 32 weeks. Mainly funneling to allow a uterus more space so baby can grow.
2.) Baby will double in weight from now until 32 weeks. Placing more pressure on cervix and Pessary.
MFM thinks its best not to agitate anything and let my body do its thing! I will be having weekly growth scans for Trip but no messing with this lady's business department for a month. AMEN.
I was also given a looser set of bed-rest rules. I am now allowed to be up for 15 minutes at a time or until contractions start. (Usually around 10-15 minutes currently) I can take longer showers... DAILY!!! Still no stairs, shopping trips, sitting for extended amounts of time or hip-hop dancing. Shoot. She also said she would be comfortable allowing me to get up and make meals, her words "Nothing big and fancy, were not chefs here anyways" I didn't have the heart to tell her!!!! And its not polite to argue with someone who's hands are in your......
At home things are going well. Ryan is my rock and is holding us all together. Both Saige and Cassidy are now used to our calmer pace of life. Saige is getting ready for school in a mere 14 days. 1st grade is so appealing to her, she cant wait to go back and learn. Her biggest concern is having a yellow outfit to wear her first week, silly girl. She also has her eyes set on a tiny pair of high top floral print boots and asks to look at them online daily. Little does she know her Daddy gave me the OK and we ordered them already, they are currently en route to our home! Cassidy is our little wild child and I feel as though the "terrible twos" are already upon us. This past week she threw her first fit that lasted over 5 minutes long. Crying, yelling, rolling on the ground, screaming and this was all because we ran out of goldfish crackers. Sorry sweets when they are gone they are gone! I do love her tenacity but oh goodness I will be praying for patience with this one. Small things seem to set off the largest emotions in her and although I try to be aware of her little feelings, i want to be sure I am not conditioning her to be,well.... A BRAT. Its a thin line and were doing our best. Is there a handbook for toddlers? " Terrible Twos for Dummies" Oy Vey.
We shall see what next week brings, I am believing all will be well and placing my trust in God. God is good, I am so thankful to be sitting in my recliner writing this post, still pregnant! Thank you all for the support and prayers. without them we would not be where we are today!
