I love the design of the Oceanus level in Hades 2, but a nitpick of mine is that the devs made a whole region based around ancient bathhouses and sea monsters for you to fight... swordfish, hammerhead sharks and hermit crabs.

Like there are some interesting sea creatures in Classical mythology that could make for cool enemy designs by themselves. The Triton of Tanagra in Pausanias' Description of Greece has a fully detailed description as a green-haired merman with shell-like hands, for example. The Cetus alone has a ton of cool designs, check them out:

Yeah mermaids are cool but give me more shit like tritons. And miss me with that sea elf shit.

And why are hyper intelligent octopus species always above water???? Why not let them build their awesome technology and culture in a vast ocean????

I started to write some aquatic races a while ago when I was obsessed with Luvstarkei’s Mermaidcraft series. I wanted to make a roleplay SMP with my own races and history and culture, but I realized how much work that would take and gave up. I also just lost interest in the project. But I keep thinking about it, coming back to it in the back of my mind. I thought that one day I could go and write it for another reason I just haven’t found that reason that’s peaking my interest yet.

A big issue that I think is impeding people is we don’t know as much about the ocean as we do land so it’s harder to write in a place we don’t know. But just make shit up!! Don’t do a me and tell yourself it has to be as scientifically accurate as possible, it’s a FANTASY race, it doesn’t need to make sense, it just needs to be fun!!!

Poseidon Cometh!  heheh. this one was super fun to do. I wanted to make it feel like the storm was coming with his arrival. As always, we've got some visual symbols in here.
