Kazutora's POV:

I stood in front of the judge as he looked through my list of felonies. He was shaking his head as he pinched the bridge of his nose. I can tell he hated giving minors a long sentence and I felt so guilty. I honestly deserved everything I have coming. I have made so many mistakes in my life, and I was only 15. The world would be better if I wasn’t here, the last mistake I made was killing my closest friend who stuck by my side for years. That was starting to eat me up, and I felt sick. 

“I will sentence you to 10 years at Tokyo Detention Center for Juveniles. If you break even one rule your sentence will be extended. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes sir,”

“You will also be required to join a support group program, starting today. I expect you to do every activity they tell you. Dismissed.” I was led out of the courtroom and placed on a bus that was full of troublemakers like me. Though I doubt their sentence was as long as mine. Hell, it’s not long enough. 

I leaned my head against the window as I waited for us to arrive. It wasn’t long before we arrived, leaving the bus in an orderly fashion. When it was my turn to get off I was led inside and provided a schedule.

“These are your schedules every day. Nothing changes on the weekends, accept your classes.” One of the officers yelled at us and I looked over mine. Pretty mundane. 

5:30 AM Wake up

6:00 AM Breakfast

7:00 AM Scrub their apartan dormitories

8:30 AM Classes (Math, Art, History, Geography)

11:00 AM Recreational time

12:00 Lunch

12:30 Excercise led by a drill master

1:00 Support group 

2:30 Recreational time

4:00 Showers

5:00 Dinner

6:00 Private time

7:00 Bedtime

We were handed our grey uniforms and instructed to change immediately. I did as I was told, thoughts on nothing but my past mistakes. Once we changed, I was instructed to go straight to my support group. I folded the paper in my pocket and was led to the room by another officer. It was a silent walk, which only left me to my devilish thoughts. I walked in and all eyes fell on me. I looked around before the officer spoke. 

“Ms. Fujioka, you have a new one. He will be under you for the next 10 years.” 

I heard someone whistle, knowing it was one of the other inmates and she nodded her head. 

“Alright, please take your seat in one of the free chairs. Why not introduce yourself?” She asked after the guard left. I sat down away from everyone and looked around before looking at her. 

“My name is Kazutora Hanemiya… I am 15 years old, and I am here for~a lot of things.” I mumbled looking down. 

“Well, I won’t force you to talk about it right now… but I do want you to acknowledge what you have done. Maybe written on paper, and explain what you think were the leading factors.” I nodded my head and she smiled before turning back to everyone. 

“You came in at the perfect timing…” 

“What do you mean?” I asked confused and the guy nodded his head towards Ms. Fujioka. 

“As I was saying, we are trying something new out. We know, that people your age don’t want to talk with people older than you. So we thought, as a way to open up about your life and to still keep you connected to the outside world, we are going to be doing a pen pal kind of deal. Now it’s not always going to be someone in Japan. We work with so many schools across the world. So they may be somewhere overseas. They will have your profiles, no pictures just a name, age, and birthday. If they choose you, we will let you know. And will probably receive your first letter within a few weeks. Sometimes, longer maybe sooner. Any questions?”

“So, we have no idea who we are writing?” One person asked, and I leaned against my hand. I was slightly interested but I doubt I would have been chosen. I sigh softly as she spoke again.

“Nope, unless they send a picture you will have no idea. You are the first group we have decided to try this with. So it’s a test run, if it works then we will be keeping it in place. If not we will go back to our boring lectures as we did before.”

“So, that means we won’t have to deal with lectures during this period?” The guy next to me asked and she shook her head.

“Nope, but you will be telling me what you learned about your person. I hope you guys get letters soon. For anyone who doesn’t get a letter, we will keep your file open for other schools to eventually choose from. Kazutora, if you have any questions do let me know. You can spend the rest of this session, writing your small essay.”

“Yes, Ma’am.” She got up and walked to the other inmates, and the one beside me ended up talking. 

“My name is Sato Toshiaki, but people call me Toshi. Been here for a couple of years now.” 

“Oh, nice to meet you…I guess.” 

“No need to be cold might as well make friends while you are here. Since you will be here for 10 years.” 

“Yeah, I guess. Honestly, should be here longer.” 

“Well, the way I see it. You know what you did was fucked up, so that’s the first step. According to Ms. Fujioka, so might as well accept it.”

“Mm, I guess…” I mumbled as I worked on my essay. It was quiet for the rest of the session. 

The day had gone by so fast, that I didn’t even realize it was time for bed. Turned out I was stuck with Toshi, who talks a lot. When it was time for the lights to go out, I lay in bed staring at the top bunk. I didn’t realize how exhausted I was but after the day I had, it was a given I would be tired. Yet I could barely sleep because of the events, between Baji’s death, and the fight with Toman, Mikey, Mikey’s brother. Everything. It was becoming too much for me to handle.

Three years have passed since you have known Kazutora, constantly sending letters and receiving phone calls for him. It was no secret you were head over heels for him, which only proved your brother right. After his friend Chifuyu contacted you, there was an opportunity you couldn’t pass up. Leading you to go to Japan for the first time in a few weeks. 

“Hey, Tora~,” You said through the phone as you through the halls. 

“Hey, is now a good time? I hope I didn’t disturb your sleep.”

“Oh no, you didn’t. I always look forward to these calls, especially this one. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! ” You laughed softly and he couldn’t help but smile.

“Thanks, I wish we could spend it together…” 

“Well, I have a present for you?” 

“Really? Now I can’t wait to get it, ugh…”

“What’s wrong?”

“I have to cut my call short, my friends showed up at the wrong time. They are saying I have a visitor.”

“Oh, okay. Well, I will talk to you soon.”

“I am so sorry… I feel bad.”

“No don’t, who knows they may have a gift for you…” 

“Bye…” He laughed slightly and you hung up.

“Are you (Y/N)?” 

“You must be Chifuyu, it’s nice to meet you.”

“It’s no problem, I am glad you were able to squeeze this into your time. He doesn’t know you are here, does he?” Chifuyu asked and you shook your head.

“Nope, but you may get scolded.” 

“It will all be good once he sees you. He speaks really highly of you.” 

“Stop that’s gonna make me blush.” Chifuyu went in first and Kazutora was glaring at him slightly.

“What is with the look? Happy Birthday to you.”

“I was on the phone with (Y/N) and had to cut it short.”

“My bad, I just wanted to see you.”

“It’s fine, thanks for visiting…”

“You must really like her…” 

“I do… she is absolutely amazing.” 

“Well, she is pretty cute…”

“What?” Kazutora looked at Chifuyu confused.

“What? She is cute…”

“How do you know, there is no possible way you would have known…”

“ANYWAY, I have a present for you…” 

“Hey, don’t ignore my question.” Chifuyu got up and opened the door, and you walked in looking at Kazutora. His mouth dropped open and felt his cheeks heat up.

“(Y/N)… you are here…” 

“To see you silly. Suprise~ I am here in the flesh… thanks to Chifuyu…” You and Chifuyu both looked at Kazutora who hadn’t said anything. You both waved your hands in front of him before you guys looked at each other. 

“I think we broke him.” 

“Yeah… and it may get worse.”

“Why…” 

“I was able to contact his parole officers and his support group worker to arrange for us to spend some time with him and have cake since he was on good standing.”

“Wow, they wouldn’t even let me…”

“Well, I have also been kinda acting as his support for when he needs someone. Since we have known each other for a few years now. So she allowed it.” 

“Ahh, makes sense.” You both went back to Kazutora who was just staring off into space. You tapped on the glass, and he jumped slightly before meeting your eyes. 

“You are really here?” 

“Yes, I am…” Kazutora had the purest smile on his face, and you flashed him one back. Suddenly an officer came in and put Kazutora in handcuffs.

“What?”

“We will see you outside in the courtyard…”

“I don’t understand~” He was being walked away and you waved before another officer guided you guys to a secure area where Kazutora couldn’t escape, but you and Chifuyu were safe. You both sat on the bench and you opened your bag to grab some homemade food you made. Kazutora eventually came up and his handcuffs were removed.

“Two hours, that’s it.” He said before leaving the three of you alone.

“How did you get it like this?”

“Some talking, hug?” You opened your arms after standing and he quickly got up and hugged you tightly. He buried his face into your neck and you rocked the both of you gently.

“This is so sickeningly sweet and I wanna puke,” Chifuyu said, you and Kazutora flicked him off and he held his hands up. 

“Chifuyu?”

“Yeah, Kazutora?”

“Thank you so much…” He mumbled after reluctantly pulling away from you. You squeezed his shoulders and smiled as Chifuyu waved it off.

“Well, after you provided me her full name, state and country. It wasn’t hard to find her. I wanted to personally thank her as well, and then we started talking and came up with this plan. I just helped her get here.”

“Still, I- am so happy we finally get to meet~” 

“Well, let’s eat… we only have 2 hours after all.” You removed the lids and he smiled handing each of them a bowl with silverware. The three of you conversed and ate happily. Kazutora couldn’t keep his eyes off of you, as you spoke or laughed. 

“You are so beautiful. I think I love you…” Kazutora randomly said after Chifuyu told a story about Baji, whom you knew a lot about by now.

“I am sorry what?” Chifuyu said, and your face heated up and you felt like your body was gonna catch fire.

“What? Oh no. I said that out loud didn’t I?” Kazutora slightly panicked as he met your eyes and you cleared your throat.

“(Y/N), I am so sorry… I don’t know-”

“As I told you before, I like you too.” You gave him a gentle smile and he relaxed a bit.

“No, I- actually think I love you… I understand if it hasn’t reached that point yet. Sorry… forget I said anything.” He quickly said and you reached over and stroke his cheek.

“Let’s not make Chifuyu here feel like he is third-wheeling, we can discuss this later.” 

“Okay…”

“Thank god, I don’t think I could handle you two making out…” 

“Hey!” You and Kazutora shot him a glare and he smirked. It soon came time for you and Chifuyu to leave, he waved to Kazutora and you.

“I have to go back to the pet shop, did you need a ride (Y/N)?”

“No it’s fine, I got it. Thanks, text me!”

“I will bye… I will see you later Kazutora~” Kazutora waved before looking at you. 

“Officer? Five more minutes, please? Promise it to be quick.” 

“Sure~” He left you two alone and you looked at Kazutora. He was finally alone with you even if it was only for a few minutes.

“I love you too Kazutora, we can’t date right now.”

“I know, it would be too difficult plus you have to go back to America. I really do love you though.” He said, and you stroked his cheek before pressing a gentle kiss to his lips and he sighed softly. His heart was filled with warmth and happiness. Something he got from you every time he talked to you. The kiss was gentle and sweet and he wrapped his arms around you. You both completely forgot you were in the visitor center in a juvenile jail. You eventually pulled away, and he smiled leaning his forehead against yours.

“Maybe when you officially get out we could work something out. So it’s easier for the two of us.”

“Alright, you will still write me and answer my calls right?”

“Of course, nothing will change…” 

“Good.”

“Okay, you two. I have to take him back to his cell.” The officer came in after about 10 minutes.

“Thank you, for giving us extra time. Kazutora, I love you…”

“I love you too, thank you for visiting me, and Japan. I know it wasn’t cheap, I promise to make it up to you.”

“No need, I hope you had a great birthday!”

“I did thanks to you and Chifuyu. Bye…” 

You walked out and held a hand to your chest with a wide smile.

You waited across the street for Kazutora, while Chifuyu was in the car. He decided he would give you and Kazutora some alone time since this will be the first time you guys have seen each other in a very long time. When the gates opened, you saw Kazutora walking out with the few things he had. Mainly all of his letters. Once he was outside the gate you ran to him, jumping into his arms. He dropped his bag full of letters and caught you, spinning you around. You laughed as he chuckled and held you tightly to him as he set you down. 

He looked down at you and leaned down to kiss you deeply. You hugged his neck, returning the kiss. Kazutora literally took your breath away and you sighed against his lips. He finally pulled away and looked down at you before leaning his forehead against yours.

“I can’t believe I can finally hold you,” Kazutora said. You laughed slightly and nodded tearing up. He gently wiped your tears away before kissing your lips multiple times.

“Stop crying, this is a happy moment,” Kazutora laughed.

“I am crying because I am happy~” 

“Dork…” he mumbled and he let you go before grabbing his bag. He took your hand in his you both started to walk.

“I can’t believe you actually, kept every single letter I have ever written to you, Tora~”

“Of course, they are what kept me going all of these years locked away. You kept me sane, and helped me more than you could ever know.” He kissed your cheek and you let a small giggle. He stopped suddenly and turned to you cupping your cheek with one hand.

“(Y/N)?”

“Hmm?”

“I love you, so much.” 

Your heart skipped a beat and you blushed before leaning into his hand.

“I love you too Kazutora.” 

“Don’t ever leave me, I need you. Really.” 

“I won’t, I have finally have you to myself. You are stuck with me now.” You declared and he sighed softly before you guys started to walk to Chifuyu’s car. Chifuyu was outside his car and Kazutora and he both shared a hug. 

“Welcome home Kazu~,” Chifuyu said and Kazutora smiled.

“Thanks, Chifuyu, for everything.” 

The three of you got into the car, and Chifuyu decided to drive Kazutora back to his home. The car was filled with laughter and filling Kazutora in on everything. 

“So, everyone wants to come and visit you and meet (Y/N) when you settle in,” Chifuyu said.

“They haven’t met you yet?” He asked you and you shook your head.

“Nope, but I am sure Chifuyu probably mentioned me.” 

“Yep, they are excited to see who has Kazutora’s heart now.” 

“Well, they can come over today. I want to see everyone after I have a shower by myself…” Kazutora said. 

“I will let them know,” Chifuyu said.

“I will handle all of the cooking then.” You said and Kazutora laid his head on your shoulder. He sighed softly as all of you fell quiet, it was only when you guys arrived at his home that you and Kazutora got out of the car.

“You coming Chifuyu?” You asked.

“Nah, I gotta clean up the shop. I will come tonight, 7:00 good?” He asked and you nodded.

“Yep, see you tonight.” You and Kazutora walked into the house as Chifuyu pulled out. Once you and Kazutora were alone, you wrapped your arms around him.

“I am so happy that I get to be here with you.” 

“Same, it’s so nice to finally be free. I dreamed of the day I could hold you throughout the night.” 

“Well you can, but you should shower and relax, I gotta start cooking. We don’t have much time before everyone arrives.”

“Right…” he pressed a quick kiss to your lips and left for his old room, to see that it was filled with new clothes. Thanks to you and Chifuyu re-stocking his closet with clothes that would fit. Everything else was left the same though. He smiled before grabbing some clothes and heading to the shower. 

You started to cook wanting to make sure everything was perfect. Luckily, you had cleaned the house a few days before he came home so nothing was dirty or dusty. You had also restocked the fridge in advance knowing that food was a priority as well. 

After about three hours of cooking, someone started to knock on the door. You were still in the kitchen so Kazutora rushed to the door. When he opened it, he saw all of his old friends there. Mitsuya and Hakkai, Takemitchy, Pah-chin, Chifuyu, and Draken. 

“Yo, Kazu it’s been a while,” Draken said, and Kazutora stepped aside to let them inside.

“Yeah, it has. It’s been so long, thanks for coming.” He said and Mitsuya gave him a hug. Kazutora returned it and Draken patted his shoulder with Hakkai and Pah. 

“So, where is your girlfriend?” Pah said and Kazutora felt the tips of his ears heat up. 

“She is here right?” Mitsuya grinned, and Chifuyu led everyone in. 

“(Y/N)!” Chifuyu called and he peeked his head into the kitchen.

“Wah, it smells so good!” Chifuyu rushed in and he noticed you made a combination of American and Japanese foods and deserts.

“AH, WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME YOU COULD COOK!?” Chifuyu yelled and everyone came in and eyed all of the food.

“Well, Culinary was in high school. We learned different dishes and then I always cooked with my grandma,” You admitted before looking at everyone, and waving.

“Holy… is super cute,” Hakkai whispered to Mitsuya. Mitsuya approached you and offered a handshake. 

“We want to thank you for keeping Kazutora on the right track and being there. Chifuyu told us so much about you. I am Mitsuya, this is Hakkai.” You smiled and nodded.

“It’s nice to meet you both.”

“I am Draken.”

“I am Pah~” 

“I am Takemitchy~” 

“It’s nice to meet you all, I am (Y/N). Hopefully, Chifuyu told only good things about me.” 

“Yeah, he told us you were cute, but not this cute,” Mitsuya teased and Kazutora quickly wrapped his arms around you.

“Mine…” he said and you let a small laugh out. 

“Don’t worry we won’t steal her away,” Draken said. 

“Don’t think you guys could if you wanted to. She has been waiting for the day Tora got out of jail,” Chifuyu said making you smile. 

“That’s so romantic,” Takemitchy said and you smiled.

“Well let’s eat, and you guys can catch up.” You said since the table was done being set up and the food laid out scattered over the table. 

Everyone sat down and began to eat and talk. Telling old stories and memories. Some had you laughing and Kazutora blushing while others had you surprised. 

You even told them how you and Kazutora ended up meeting, which was through the exchange at school and the jail he was in. Which they found to be a really cute story.

Kazutora watched you interact with everyone and he leaned against his hand admiring you. Draken looked at him and grinned before nudging him.

“You have a good one.”

“I know, I am so lucky. She is so perfect. Who would have thought all of this would have happened over pen pal letters from two people in two different time zones?” 

Draken shrugged but was happy for his friend since he could tell you changed him for the better making him happy.

Reader's POV:

“So (Y/N), have you received a letter from your pen pal?” Jessica asked me and I shook my head.

“Not yet, maybe today.. hopefully. Is it normal to be nervous?”

“Of course you would be nervous, he~”

“Jessica~ I am not nervous for that reason. I am actually pretty excited, but worried he won’t wanna write me back.” 

“You are a special case, you know that?” 

“You know Jessica, this was your idea of writing people our age that is in jail. You can’t judge the things they have done. You don’t know their story.” I said, and her shoulders slumped.

“Mama (Y/N), is in her scolding mode again.”

“Well, she has a point.” 

“I am sorry, this is why you should have been president.” 

“Yeah, no. Not my style.” I flashed her a smile, and she shook her head slightly. 

“I never understand you.”

“I don’t like leading… anyway, how is volleyball?”

“Good, we miss you though…”

“Yeah, well… that injury is still affecting me. So sports is a no-go, thought about joining the drama club as well. To try and keep myself busy. It’s weird not having a crap ton of activities after school.” 

“I bet, you went from the most athletic, to being one of the geeks.”

“Hey, nothing wrong with being a geek.” I stuck my tongue out at her, and she laughed.

“Anyway, my pen pal is from here in the US. He is totally super cute.”

“Really? So you can judge my person but you fall for yours? Wait how do you know what he looks like?”

“I sent a photo of me and they allowed him to take a photo and send it to me as well.” 

“Interesting, I should have done that… maybe when I get his letter. I am curious to see what Kazutora looks like.” 

“Well, he has a cute name. Maybe you are lucky and he is cute too.”

“Come on, it’s not about who is cute, and who is not… it’s about~”

“I know, I know. But you are the type to fall for people easily too.”

“Not true, you sound like my brother. Ugh, we have to get to class.” I said, and she laughed leaving me to go to my homeroom. I rolled my eyes and went and took a seat. You opened your notebook, as you waited for the teacher to come in. 

The school day dragged, and I found myself feeling quite restless. Probably didn’t help I hardly slept last night due to upcoming exams. There were a few pop quizzes but nothing too out of the ordinary. Everyone seemed to have gotten a letter from their pen pal, except for me. But considering other people are a tad bit closer to them than mine, it was to be expected. Plus well jail typically had a strict schedule. So I can only assume that was the reason why.

Once the final bell of the day rang, I got up and collected all my stuff. I called my brother in hopes he would pick me up since it was raining.

“Yello~”

“Hey dork, can you please pick me up? It’s storming outside.” 

“Yeah, I am already here. I am gonna drop you off, then head off to work.” 

“I am on my way!” 

I hung up and waved to the teacher and my classmates before walking out of the school. I stood inside next to the doors, before spotting my bothers truck and ran to his car hiding my head with my book bag. He unlocked the door, and I hopped in and shuddered.

“Didn’t bring an umbrella?” 

“No, it wasn’t supposed to rain today,” I said and he shook his head and I fastened my seat belt.

“Anyway, I left $20 for dinner, if you didn’t want to cook. And you have mail. I placed it under the $20. I have to go straight in, after dropping you off. Probably won’t be done until late at night, so don’t wait up.”

“Mm kay, if you work too much you are going to get wrinkles, old man.” 

“Watch it, brat,” he side-eyed me and I laughed. 

“I am just saying…” 

“I will throw water on you in the morning if you don’t hush.”

“You wouldn’t dare…”

“Oh, I would…” 

“Is that a challenge?” 

“Take it as you will.” 

“Alright… watch your back, you won’t win.” 

“You say that every time… but if I remember the score it’s currently 20 wins for me and 19 wins for you.” 

“That’s alright, ‘cause I will win and we will be tied,” I said and he rolled his eyes before stopping outside our house.

“Well get out, I gotta go.” 

“Alright geez, you just stopped the car,” I said getting out of the car. I rushed to the door and unlocked it and got out. I waved and he drove off, I walked in and sighed softly going to my room. I tossed my bag in the corner and dried my hair off before changing into some pajamas. I then grabbed my phone ordering (favorite food) before going to the kitchen. I grabbed the letter I received and I noticed it was the letter I have been waiting for. I quickly opened it, and read it. I couldn’t help the smile on my face though it fell a few times. I felt so bad for him, and I made it my mission to make him feel comfortable around me. 

I rushed back to my room to grab my notebook and pen before going to the kitchen again to start writing my own letter. 

Dear Kazutora,

I am from America, so I am quite away from you haha! And I know, I am barely passing my Japanese class right now. Sad I know… Also, now I am curious about your hobby! So don’t leave me hanging, I promise you can’t scare me away that easily… I literally watch serial killer documentaries before bed. Helps me sleep :P. And I guess that makes sense on the food part, heard the food isn’t too good. Maybe one day if we ever meet I can cook for you! I am a better cook than my brother, he just leaves me money to order food.

You were part of different gangs? For real? I can’t say I have been, then again, I am not much of a fighter or anything. I avoid conflict as much as possible! Even if you did some terrible things, you probably feel remorse for the things you have done. As long as you learn from your mistakes that’s all that matters. 10 years? I bet if you do good behavior they will let you out sooner, after all, you are still a minor. 

You were a great choice to write to! I am happy you returned my letter, I was worried you wouldn’t want to talk er write letters back! So I am happy that you want me to continue to write! I won’t stop unless you asked me to. You like animals too!? Any person who likes animals can’t be bad. I have some pets, I will send a photo of me with my pets! They are super cute! I also like rooftops for the same reason but I don’t like to look down and it has to have a railing or fence. If not and I look down I feel lightheaded and feel like I may fall off.

I smiled as I read through my letter before going to get (pet’s name) and taking a picture. I smiled widely and snapped the photo before kissing my pet’s cheek and snapping another photo. I printed the photos and added them to the letter before adding the address to the envelope and placing it in the mailbox.

Kazutora's POV:

Seven months have passed since I and (Y/N) have been writing to each other. And I can’t lie but I think I fell in love with her. No, I have no intentions of telling her. I was glad the guards let us keep our pictures because I have so many of her, her pets even random pictures of flowers she took. She was so sweet, and when I was ready to spill my entire past to her, she was so accepting. They started to allow us to have some phone calls, and since I didn’t really have many people here I could call, I called her. She provided me with her number when I asked her if it was okay. Her voice is so soft and sweet. I couldn’t even do something without thinking about her.

Today we were having our normal group session, to talk about our penpals so they could see if it was worth it to keep doing it. I hope they allowed us because I don’t think I could stop writing her. I would literally go crazy. 

“So Kazutora, how do you think this pen pal exchange is going for you?” 

“Uhm, really well. I was able to open up to her without her having to judge me. She practically knows everything about me. It’s refreshing to talk to her.”

“Really? Do you feel it’s helping you get through everything? Learn from your mistakes?”

“Yes, at first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to tell her everything scared I would scare her away. There have been times we mentioned how great it would be to meet up in the future.” 

“So you have a goal then when you get out of here?”

“Yeah, stay out of trouble so I can eventually meet her.” 

“Good to hear. Well, you can go back to your cell.”

“Okay, wait, question.”

“Yes?”

“Will we be able to continue writing letters to them? I really don’t want to stop the exchange…” 

“I see you, have taken a liking to her?” 

“No that’s not. It’s just I feel like I can be myself with her.” 

“Well, luckily the others said the same thing. It’s helping them mentally wise as well to have someone more their age talk to them. So yes, we will be continuing this as a permanent thing.” 

I smiled at that feeling relieved. She then handed me another letter and smiled and I took it from her.

“You two have exchanged more letters than anyone else.” 

“I guess I am lucky… thank you.” I bowed to her and the guard handcuffed me and took me back to the cell. Once I arrived I flopped down on my bed and opened the letter. 

‘Dear Tora,

Happy seven months of friendship! I know, I know, it’s lame. But on this day seven months ago I wrote you! Since then we exchange so many letters! I feel like I have known you for so long! My brother teased me because I made a 7-month cake of our friendship. But then forgot I can’t mail it to you for more than one reason… so I attached a photo. I have to make one when we meet! 

So, how is everything? Are you still doing okay? I know sometimes you don’t always tell me when something is wrong, which is fine. I understand, I just worry sometimes…

Nothing too exciting happened here. It’s the usual honestly, pretty boring. These letters and your calls are the only exciting things really. Oh, you never told me about your birthday! When is it? I wanna celebrate it with you. Mine is (birthday).

I couldn’t help but shake my head and laugh at the letter.

“Dork…” I mumbled to myself and looked at the picture of you and the cake. I held the picture to me, before taping it to my wall with many pictures of the ones you sent.

Dear (N/N),

What am I going to do with you? You are such a dork, but it’s adorable that you keep track of how many months we have been friends. Honestly, I have to. Though I never thought of celebrating such a thing. But it makes sense why you would want to celebrate such a thing. I honestly haven’t been this happy in a very long time, and I have you to thank for that. Even some friends that visit me occasionally stated that I look better, and seem much happier. I told them about you, and now they want to meet you. Who knows how long that will be though? Some of them tease me, but we won’t get into that. I am sure it’s the same reason why your brother teases you. 

Anyway, I am doing okay. Nothing changes same routine as always. Sorry, I don’t open up all the time, I just kind of want to not talk about certain things. Sometimes I feel like I don’t deserve you. You are too good for this world, too good for me… yet you are always there when I need you. I just feel like if I share my problems with you, I may worry you too much. So I don’t wanna do that. I know I can go to you though when things get really rough. Thank you again. 

My birthday is September 16… So you can celebrate it if you want, don’t have to though. It’s no big deal. I will make sure to somewhat celebrate your birthday or something. I will think of something when the time comes. <;3 

Uhm, also… one last thing… I know this may sound weird… but I am so happy you chose me. I think I may have feelings for you, though not sure. Since we never really met in person. But all of the calls and letters, even your cute motivational quotes at the end of your letters really help me. This is a half confession since I am not sure if it’s because you are the only person I really talk to, a girl at that. Or if it’s genuine sorry if it’s creepy. I just can’t help it. Your pictures always make me smile and my heart starts beating faster. And- yeah. Ignore this part of the letter if you think it’s weird or if you don’t feel the same. Well, I look forward to your next letter.

I looked over my letter and I slid against the wall with a blush. I can’t believe I just confessed er half confessed. Well, I need to give it to them before I lose my nerve and start over. I quickly put it in an envelope and gave it to the guard to give it to the counselor.

I woke up the next morning, groaning. I didn’t get to sleep last night because I thought it would be smart to try and start the letter. I bet my room is a mess right now. Writing a letter shouldn’t be this nerve wrecking. I slowly got out of bed, and made my way back to my desk. I sat down at the desk and decided to turn some music on. 

“Okay I can do this~ they are just a normal person like me…” I mumbled to myself as I picked up my pen.

‘Dear Kazutora, 

It’s so nice to finally write you, honestly it has been so nerve wrecking. I have so much balled up paper on my floor, I am gonna have to clean it! Anyway, my name is (Y/N) (L/N)… wait, that’s backwards… sorry still learning japanese. My name is (L/N) (Y/N). I am not really good at talking about myself honestly. So I hope you don’t mind that I ramble a lot in my letters. I do want to learn a lot about you! Also, don’t feel like you have to pretend to be someone you aren’t in these letters. Just be yourself, I wanna know the real you. I won’t judge, and what is said in these letters stays between us. Got it? I hope you are eating healthy, and getting some sleep. Me personally, I did not sleep at all, I was up all night trying to write this letter to you. I got maybe 2 hours of sleep. Not good I know. Now it’s morning and I am still writing, but its going better than it was. What kind of food do you like? What is your hobby? Favorite color? I love (favorite food), I enjoy (hobby), it’s something that keeps me locked away in the house most of the time. My favorite color is (favorite color). I only have a older brother, who takes care of me though between me and you he is a huge dork. We always end up fighting before I end up giving up. He has too much energy. I need him to donate me some honestly, haha. Do you have siblings? Anyway, I really hope to hear from you soon! Who knows maybe me and you will be best friends! I stared at my letter with a smile before nodding my head satisfied. It shows the real me, and that I am not being fake. Now to mail this and to wait until his letter. I quickly put it in the envelope and wrote the address before putting it on top of my mailbox for the mailman. I sighed softly before getting ready for the day. I had nothing planned to much, besides staying indoors. I never really had too many friends, so I wasn’t ever invited to other places unless Jessica needed me in regards to the club. 

I got into the shower, before throwing on a pair of sweat pants and hoodie before getting me some food in my system. I saw a note on the fridge and noticed my brother left for work. Typical. I grabbed me a bowl of cereal before going back onto the couch, and turned on the T.V.
