My steam deck came today and the first thing I did was install TRON RUN/r 😭 I haven't been able to play this in years

Been around the Tron fandom passively (loved the movies, Uprising, and 2.0, but I never actually did any fandom things) and I've never relaly interacted with tumblr until recently. So what exactly is run/r?

Run/r was — is, it still exists even if it’s missing half the features now — a game that came out back in 2015/2016! it’s an endless runner game, so think like... Tron flavored Temple Run. it came out right around the end of the endless runner game craze but it had some cool features. some levels had you running, and you could use your disc to smash through obstacles, run along walls, slide on rails, and use a wing chute to cross gaps between platforms. some levels had you riding lightcycles against a timer to the finish. but one of the highlights was definitely the character roster [link]

imo the better part of the game was Stream mode, where the course was actually endless — no set finish line, you just ran until you died. the course elements were randomized and also switched between running / lightcycle segments, and there was a leaderboard and weekly challenges that earned you badges. I think tronblr also had our own google doc leaderboard among ourselves? it was definitely a fun communal experience while it lasted, and I’d be more inclined to play it now and then if Disney hadn’t axed the online features in 2017.

and I’m a little surprised but people did make some gameplay videos [link], and I think one of the launch trailers shows off the feel of the game pretty well [link]

Since I can’t stop thinking about Tron, if I was in the Inside Out universe, I imagine my emotions would look something like this.

was playing runr today and out of fucking nowhere when I was in a character select menu the voice over lady just suddenly goes “KEVIN NOT DETECTED. WHERE IS KEVIN” and I SCREAMED ma’am you can’t do that!
