Freshly minted record label TropiKult bounces nimbly onto the singles scene with a deep and tropical gem named Afraid Of Heights. The sleek disco saturated dance track comes from German production act Couzare, and its captivating, airy vocals are turned in by Southern California’s April Cheung. Afraid Of Heights is a soothing summer jam, a divine slice of gently bouncing, sweetly glowing bliss. TropiKult’s inaugural release is available now on iTunes.

It’s never too early in the day, or too late at night, for deep and luscious bass, particularly when they come with classic Michael Jackson. And by classic, I’m referring to MJ’s timeless, everlasting imprint in music history. Thriller is one of the most recognizable, widely loved hits in the world. It’s practically universally revered holy pop scripture. TropiKult collective producer N2N braves a sizable risk in taking on such an anthem when he decided to remix the track as an extension of his string of MJ remixes from a set at Burning Man this year. But all apprehension swiftly falls away as his remix of Thriller, simply put, thrills me to the bone. 

It begins with hypnotic beats that build with such sweet suspense. As Michael Jackson’s dashing pinnacle of a voice joins in, Thriller turns my mind towards the dark and ghoulish nights ahead with Halloween just around the corner. Up through 1 minute 22 seconds, N2N’s Thriller is already a sensational remix, a fun and swishing 80′s meets contemporary electronica edit perfect for getting your groove on. Then the track takes on a whole new level of deep and future house dance floor killing wickedness that had my mouth dropped wide open and my face massively beaming. The visceral remix slices and dices, jabs and stabs, a supreme dance anthem for this weekend’s creepy crawly celebrations. A classy bridge that focuses back on MJ’s voice reminds me heavily of similarities between The Weeknd and MJ, a quality I had noticed a long time ago and nearly forgot as The Weeknd’s career took off.
