2020 Top Games of the Week: Week 4
Hey folks, we’re back! We’ve got three of the five Power conferences playing ball now that the SEC is joining the club. Of course, the SEC hasn’t put out a ton of great games in their first week, but that’s fine.
Top 10 Games of the Week
10. West Virginia 1-0 at #15 Oklahoma State 1-0
Maybe keep an eye on this one. Oklahoma State looked horrific in their 16-7 win over Tulsa last week. The Cowboys had been considered a dark horse contender for the Big 12 but that’s looking incredibly difficult all of the sudden.
9. Florida State 0-1 at #12 Miami FL 2-0
It’s a big rivalry so it’ll get the air time, but suddenly this one is looking like it’s not gonna be very interesting. Florida State was rather lifeless in their loss to Georgia Tech, already causing angry teeth gnashing from Nole fans. Meanwhile, Miami has looked solid in their two games.
8. Tulsa 0-1 at Arkansas State 1-1
Tulsa nearly knocked off Oklahoma State, so I’m very curious to see just how good the Golden Hurricanes are. Arkansas State will be a good test, the Red Wolves knocked off Kansas State in a stunning upset (which also made the Big 12 look horrible).
7. Troy 1-0 at #18 BYU 1-0
So far both Troy and BYU look pretty good. That puts it well ahead of many of this weekend’s games. I’ve got no other notes on this one.
6. UAB 1-1 at South Alabama 1-1
This game should be played every year.
5. Georgia Southern 1-0 at #19 Louisiana 2-0
With Appalachian State’s loss to Marshall, Louisiana is now the only real Sun Belt team with even a remote chance at an undefeated season and a spot in a NY6 bowl. Georgia Southern didn’t look very inspired in their win over Campbell, but the Eagles have a penchant for upsetting ranked opponents so I don’t want to count them out.
4. NC State 1-0 at #20 Virginia Tech 0-0
The ACC looks pretty deep this year but I’m not sold on either NC State or Virginia Tech. The Wolfpack got into a big shootout with Wake Forest but pulled out a 45-42 win. The Hokies haven’t played yet and are in their first season without longtime coordinator Bud Foster so I’m curious to see how they play.
3. Mississippi State 0-0 at #6 LSU 0-0
Technically this a rivalry game so I want to highlight it. The defending champs are back and are hosting a rebuilding Mississippi State team. It’ll probably be a slaughter.
2. #23 Kentucky 0-0 vs #8 Auburn 0-0
Football is going to get better now that the SEC is back, but week 1 is tough. Of course they still have one of the two ranked vs ranked games because it’s the SEC. I always root for Kentucky because I like the way the program has slowly build up, but this season might be rough. Auburn is a bit of an unknown, I’m not really sure if they’re going to be a real contender, so this game will help us see if the Tigers are the real deal.
1. #22 Army 2-0 vs #14 Cincinnati 1-0
I am so happy I can put this game up at the top slot. Army has easily taken care of business against two bad Sun Belt teams and Cincinnati has only beaten Austin Peay 55-20. It’s hard to say how good either team is, but they’re ranked and I like them so it’s your #1 game of the week. I hope they both play again in the Cotton Bowl.
