May I just say

In the 2010s, when YA fiction was saturated in conventionally attractive female protagonists that INSISTED they were plain or ugly, and didn’t feel beautiful until their love interest(s) told them they were, having Ember Hill in chapter 1 casually announce that she was hot, and for her to never waver in this belief throughout the series, was a goddamn breath of fresh air.
