Hi Oslo
Back to Astons Specialities at Sembawang Shopping Centre for their western food. This round I ordered something other than the Crispy Fried Fish for mum. Got her the Seafood Marinara (S$10.90) pasta which came with a soup of the day – Mushroom Soup. But alas, she said she don’t like the mussels. :(
The side order I made was for this Truffle Chips (S$5.90) in which a few dashes of truffle powder was added. Both mum and I enjoyed this hand sliced crispy potato chips perfumed with the aroma of truffle.
My Spanish Chestnut Pork (S$17.90) with two sides of garden veggies and potato wedges. It was served with a cup of brown sauce and not the apple sauce I expected. Loved the tender and juicy pork still a little pinkish in the middle.
I love lunch meetings!
I know it isn't yet Christmas but here is a 1.8kg piece of Ham Royale (S$31.50) I gotten from NTUC. Hams around here or at least in Singapore are sold by the weight in slices during the normal days saved for those small garden variety picnic hams which comes in whole pieces. But come Christmas season, supermarkets and hotels’ delicatessen will offer more exotic whole legs or cuts of ham whether bone-in or boneless. I much preferred these real meaty textured food items compared to those compressed or “glued” together picnic hams.
Sis pan-fried the ham, egg and mushrooms while I styled my Cheese Ciabatta, Ham & Egg Sandwich for the photoshoot. :D A piece of cheese, a layer of lettuces, thick cut of ham, an over easy egg topped with mushrooms and drizzled with mayonnaise. Before I forget, sis sprayed some truffle oil on the lettuces and I added some truffle chips to the side. The camera had its share and now it is my turn to tuck in. I love this ham as it was not too salty and pan-frying it rendered out the oil from the layer of fat making it all the more flavourful and tasty.
Every time we go to Sembawang Shopping Centre, mum only wanted to go to Astons Specialities. Order a side of Truffle Chips (S$5.90+) which was not bad but tasted more like those artificially flavoured truffle aroma to me. Mum went back to her trusty Crispy Fried Fish (S$11.50+) with potato wedges and tasty rice.
As for me, I picked their time limited Crispy Duck Confit (S$14.90+) with potato wedges and tasty rice. I love that crispy crunchy shell on the outside and the fork tender moist flesh in the middle.
