not to be on a role with art rants but its really funny when people complain about modern art being only for rich snobs because it becomes very telling how YOU perceive art. many artists from modern art movements made a point of how everyone could do art and how daily human activity could be/is art. they created art with people who didnt come from art backgrounds at all and weren’t artists. so either you dont know about these movements/artists in which case you didnt bother to do basic research about something before calling it elitist, or worse, you do and you think these concepts (every day life can be art) are too complex for non-artists to understand.

#mind you im not talking out of my ass i've interacted with both of these people #the amount of people who think they are being very progressive but claim that poor people/non art people cannot comprehend conceptual art is #truly astounding #there are modern art movements which are more theoretically complex and require more reading #there are also a lot of them which arent about that at all #and have much more to do with changing perspective on what art is #which requires critical thinking not research #which a lot of people are absolutely capable of and should be stimulated to do #its just it actually makes me sad the number of people that look at a work and think #this is some art nonsense the artist is being hostile towards me and is making it inaccessible #and how many times those works were made with YOU the audience in mind #and all you have to do is suspend some judgement and bias for a second and try to interact with it #so many of these artists you think are being elitists are actually AGAINST elitism in the art world #and are trying to engage with you in a way that doesnt require you to know a lot of art history #but it DOES require you to engage critically and not be super closed off to things that are unfamiliar #if you think that this is elitism than we have a whole bigger conversation of ant #*anti-intellectualism to get into #anyway i know i sound like a broken record but it just bothers me to no end

Gender is such a weird concept. Why do we have to declare our genders to anyone? What is the point of any of it? The only thing gender is good for is dividing us. Why does it need to be defined? Why do I need to be defined? So you can hate me? So you can love me? Is your love so fragile you have to categorize me to award it? I have no use for these details. I want to cast it all away. I want to know the formless, purist version of people. Even the wall of the internet is not enough to keep us safe. We create images, references, for the people we meet. We can still construct something in our minds that obscures the true self someone so lovingly shared with us. These distortions can mark someone - force them to believe that was always a part of them.

That wasn’t you. That was a part of me that I placed on you. I wish I could know you without having to compare you. I wish I knew how to share me without hurting anyone.
