Chris. she/her. Fandom Old. Aries. AroAce. She of the Terrifying Word Count. There are no benefits to being a retail manager. Purple tiefling enthusiast. Has a PhD in Lucien Nonagon, probably. Cree Rights Activist. Tombtaker Apologist. Simps For Hell in Any Universe. My fandoms, ships, and character preferences are not always wholesome or unproblematic and you have to decide if you can live with that.
Hello, my name is Chris. I write a lot of fanfic and have been doing so for 25 unslutty years because I don't write porn anymore... or that often when I did. This is a personal choice not a statement against porn. Porn is great. It’s not my thing though.
You will often see me talk about my writing, so this post is for knowing what the eff I am talking about, because that is literally the ONLY THING you need to know about me going into this blog. Everything else is subject to my whims. Consider this blog a stew. The writing is kinda like the meat, but god only knows what kind of bullshit I'm tossing in there with it.
It is a running joke that I can never predict the word count of anything and when I say 200k, what I actually mean is 600k. I didn't use to be like this. Something broke in me and now everyone has to deal with my doorstoppers.
90% of my fic titles come from Seanan McGuire's songbook. In case you were wondering.
Current projects I am working on, aka the Hydra, her Sister, and her Bullshit Cousin That Has Every Disease:
by a spindle's bright end (0/30)- Critical Role. Finale of life in the margins of redemption. Covers CR3 in the sense that events from CR3 sure do happen, but is told primarily from the POV of the Nein and their allies and deals with a lot of the Apogee Solstice/Moon War mess on a grander scale courtesy of the consequences of previous fics. COMING IN 2026.
eldritch and uncharted shores (36/43)- Hellaverse. Finale of red roses and dead things. A fic about war, redemption, family, and the apocalypse that's constantly being jossed and validated by canon in the same breath.
we burn to babylon (7/10)- Venom (movies) A fic so canon compliant and canon complicit that the audience is me and only me and no one else because who else will accept the crimes against comics canon I'm about to commit in the name of Sony movie accuracy in adapting elements. A novelization of a fourth movie based on a smattering of different comic arcs but mostly The King In Black that only exists in my head. The Goncharov of fanfiction because I am not kidding when I say I am TRYING to write something that could feasibly be the fourth movie we'll never get as a fun writing experiment. I want to be Matthew Stover and the Revenge of the Sith novel so bad I look stupid, but my GOD I am having fun and maybe other people will too. (CURRENTLY ON HIATUS.)
I may dip and write some one-shots, but it's unlikely I would ever actually talk about those because they happen so infrequently it's like either I write it or I don't why get anyone's hopes up.
Beneath the cut, you will find a masterpost of both my long series and what I consider my personal favorites of my non-series fics if my body of work is overwhelming, but you'd like to try something shorter than a million words. I write mostly gen fic, either canon divergent or canon compliant, character-driven, redemption-flavored stories. They are also all shorter than 100k by, like, a huge margin. Barring one that almost got there. And the bullshit cousin which will be over 100k one day.
Cree Deeproots saves Molly on the Glory Run Road and changes everything for the Mighty Nein, and, in return, the Mighty Nein changes everything for her.
A very, very AU and canon divergent retelling of Campaign Two and soon Campaign Three with both new plots and twists on old ones.
The OG Fic Hydra. The Creedemption series. The 1.8 million word and rising nightmare. Shortened to LitMoR.
While the series has ships, they are not the primary focus and do not curtail the importance of the platonic relationships. All ships are the canon ships, just substituting Shadowgast for Widomauk, and a Cree/OC ship.. and several random crackships that I don't think are worth explaining. You'll experience them.
This is not chronological order, but rather the order they should be read in to maintain the integrity of how the story is built.
once upon a damn-you-all. (600k+)- Cree saves Molly on the Glory Run Road and turns Campaign Two fully on its head. So AU that after the Iron Shepherds plot NO major plot events from the original campaign occur until the sequel. Shortened to OUADYA.
steal the rhymes from all the reasons. (3k) A missing scene between Chapter 33 and 34 of OUADYA.
there's something divine in the way screams can sound (12k)- While you were discovering the merits of found family, Lucien was having a full mental breakdown in Cognouza.
as in the painted parlor, ophelia dreams (14k)- A story about a complicated female character from Zemni Fields with a difficult past who sacrifices everything for ambition and how that kickstarts a plot.
all of the dreamers defying convention (14k)- The Nein venture into Aeor while underleveled and get their asses kicked.
the lightning in chains (3k)- Additional Yasha scenes from all of the dreamers defying convention.
you can't deny high noon (900k+)- The Nein free Lucien from the Astral Sea in some sort of a way, experience canon plots at 5x danger level, are stalked by a cult, and try to figure their shit out before they can face the Somnovem. Also it's the longest fic in the CR AO3 tag isn't that special? Referred to as YCDHN.
seeking an original sin (130k)- Lucien is left unsupervised, makes a deal with a demon, gathers a crack team to undo it, and learns a little about himself along the way.
you and the sea have had a fine and fitting vengeance (40k)- The Mighty Nein, the Tombtakers, and the Fine Print meet.
when it's time to pay the piper all their failings fall to you (10k)- Lucien gets a lot of unsolicited advice.
who says cuckoos are wrong? (15k)- A story about a complicated female character from Zemni Fields with a difficult past who sacrifices everything for ambition and how that kickstarts a plot.
this is the time when the gods have their say (8k)- Seven years after the fall of Cognouza, Cree and Caduceus investigate an attack on the Air Ashari and learn some unfortunate things.
Heaven and Hell’s sordid history comes calling with a vengeance as Charlie Morningstar and her friends find themselves more involved than they ever expected to be.
It turns out desiring change in Hell and Heaven comes with a great deal of consequences, tribulations, and cursed rose gardens.
A Hellaverse fanfic series that goes AU after Hazbin Hotel 1x06 and Helluva Boss 2x10. The second Hydra that hit the towers. Shorted to Roseverse.
Ships are... complicated. Mostly Vaggie/Charlie, Angel/Husk, Cherri/Pentious, Baxter/Niffty... and a giant complicated polycule of Lucifer/Lilith/Alastor/Vox/Velvette. Like LitMoR the ships aren't really the focus and a lot of emphasis is put on every kind of bond over simply romantic ones.
the things you hold most dear may not survive another day (5k)- The Extermination hits. Angel and Husk have a bad time. Mostly Husk.
in dreaming even death may die (92k)- Lucifer tries to make a bargain with Heaven to help the hotel, Alastor's debts come due, the Vees scheme with Adam, and Husk and Angel are in a bodyguard AU.
we'll burn like stars (3k)- Lucifer and Lilith try to figure out what comes next.
a little kindness and a guillotine (13k)- Vox makes a deal with the devil and ends up catching feels. And getting a new job.
if my love is tomorrow, i've forgotten yesterday (10k)- Angel figures some shit out in a post-Valentino world.
when we need to escape, we've got nowhere (9k)- Angel and Husk adopt a puppy.
red, red roses and dead things (13k)- Alastor tries to run away from his problems, but the PTSD demons are stronger.
our wolves don't live in fear (77k)- A locked room murder mystery with class warfare and family drama.
so the wheel can keep turning (21k)- Vox, Alastor, Lucifer, and Lilith go a date that's kinda also like psychological warfare.
we are a song of mercy and laughter- (7k)- Charlie reels from the aftermath of the party and gets appreciated.
one more harvest left to rot (27k)- Lucifer, Alastor, and Vox go to Wrath to seek answers and end up getting caught up with a vigilante.
the glass mountains gleaming (4k)- Velvette is Down Bad for the Queen of Hell.
an oleander under the skin (8k)- Baxter and Niffty go on their first date.
eldritch and uncharted shores (Ongoing)- Charlie and company vs the impending apocalypse via the power of friendship and incredible violence.
This is by no means a "definitive" list of all my best works and honestly I probably i included way too many, but they're the ones I'm most proud of and enjoy rereading.
ALIAS
the other side of the berlin wall (gen, 2k, one-shot)- A fic that answers the question: "Quentin Tarantino what the FUCK were your acting choices in that scene in After Six." I am INSANE about Cole and Sark's subtextual dynamic.
BLEACH
by the time you see the patterns (it's a hundred times too late) (Gen, 6k, one-shot)- A character study for Hiyori disguised as a thinly veiled attempt to get Urahara's ass kicked.
CRITICAL ROLE
why the omens were ignored (Gen, 1k, one-shot)- Lucien goes a little nuts in the flesh tunnel after Cree's death and talks to himself.
and i have no love left for cruel river eyes (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- Original Flavor Creedemption! Or a fic that explores Cree surviving, meeting Kingsley, healing from her trauma, and becoming a pirate. The shades of LitMoR are lurking in the fringes.
the bits and pieces of the past (Gen, 7k, one-shot)- Kingsley gets targeted by the Claret Orders. Beau becomes his lawyer.
trapped in the walls of my skin (Gen, 4k, one-shot)- A fic that covers the absolutely traumatizing ordeal that was Lucien's resurrection and how much body horror had to be involved therein. Because no one was talking about it.
like a true fisher king (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- Molly and Lucien battle in the center of the mind for dominance in what is so aggressively Evangelion that I bet Taliesin felt the disturbance in the force.
the happy is expensive but the ever after's free (Gen, 2k, one-shot)- Fjord goes to the Gentleman to ask for his blessing in marrying Jester. I feel like I always get complimented on how I wrote the Gentleman in this.
the shattered stage is set (and there's a role you must fulfill) (Gen, 100k, multichapter)- My first really big plotty fic and boy was this the early stages of my ability to plot anything. I still love it immensely. It's a nice little multiverse shenanigans adventure story involving Kingsley, Molly, and Lucien trying to stop the Chained Oblivion. If LitMoR is too daunting and you want something that's more "canon" and also has similar themes, I'd read it. Also Jayne's Oblivion Priestess form fucks severely.
the line is fine between the saint and sinner (Gen, 7k, one-shot)- Lucien goes after Vess and gets utterly obliterated, the Nein rescue him believing he's Molly, and Lucien spends a week recovering from trauma trying to pretend he's TOTALLY this Molly guy really while waiting for the Tombtakers to come get him.
may your princes understand you (may your wolves get out alive) (Gen, 6k, one-shot)- In which Jester gets held captive by a mad fey, Artagan plays the hero, and Frumpkin does something of value for the narrative.
what the promised land would promise me (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- Continuing my agenda of "from the Tombtakers' perspective, the Nein SUCK SO HARD on like a visceral level," enjoy the intuit charge massacre from the Tombtakers' perspective.
every dream i dream is founded in what came before (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- Lucien hones his god complex in the middle of a boring church service in the Claret Orders.
we take our turns on the altar (Gen, 1k, one-shot)- Caduceus gets pinned down in some rubble in Aeor. Cree decides to stay behind with him until the rest of their groups catch up. This too was early stage LitMoR.
a better man (a better monster) (Gen, 2k, one-shot) The Nein love each other (threat).
ripped from the seams of another tales' glories (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- A fic about the Tombtakers being really confused by the Nein, which starts out funny and gets REAL SAD. REAL QUICK.
they call me a twisted reflection (Gen, 5k, one-shot)- Lucien survives intact after the Cognouza fight. He has a lot to deal with. Like his friends being dead and it's all his fault.
give me black cat bones as the clock strikes thirteen (Cree/Lucien, 8k, one-shot)- A spooky season Tombtakers caper fic about a town under the thrall of a vampire. I love writing fics about the Tombtakers just being young and stupid and not evil yet.
you will be the king no longer when we reach the glade (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- Another Lucien Lives fic, but this time with Jester focus. I think she could have fixed him, personally.
i may be more scared we'll win that i am worried we'll lose (Widomauk, 3k, one-shot)- My current obsession with the Venom movies notwithstanding, it was really easy to make Lucien and Molly jokes about the whole vibe going on in LTBC. And it's just delightful. In this fic, Caleb survives a Rend Mind, gets a Head!Molly to talk to, and things get emotional and sad and then happy again.
and maybe it's madness, but what's wrong with madness? (Gen, 2k, one-shot)- A Jayne-centric fic that acts as a coda to Bar Room Blitz.
where the waves hold cold dominion, sand and stone can catch no claim (Gen, 9k, one-shot)- Every possible iteration of Threeleaves I have probably done. In this one, Kingsley is Lucien's twin brother and has a lot to say about the subject when the Nein arrive on Darktow with Molly in tow.
we are what we are and we will never mourn (Gen, 4k, one-shot)- A Mighty Nein Evil AU where they get the band back together to go deal with Lucien.
and each falling star changed the song of the sky (Gen, 6k, one-shot)- Percy and Vex adopt the Tombtakers and save the world.
you shall be the unmarked grave (Gen, 3k, one-shot) This fic is actually LitMoR canon as it is exactly my headcanon for how Molly was found by the circus (before the comic came out and jossed it). I love it so much that I'm glad it can live on in an AU.
call me your destiny, call me a liar (Gen, 5k, one-shot)- a fic where Molly and Lucien BOTH survive post-Cognouza, Molly is deeply traumatized by the experience, Lucien is a guestage in the Blooming Grove, and they both might be able to learn something from each other.
said the fool to his majesty, dethroned (Gen, 2k, one-shot)- Another 'how to make a Kingsley' fic. This one is a little kinder.
how many miles to babylon? (Gen, 5k, one-shot)- The Moonweaver offers Jester a test to redeem Artagan after TravelerCon. Artagan's enemies get involved and now Jester has to rescue him. Platonic Tam Lin yay!
polishing the apple eris threw to shake the dead leaves down (Cree/Lucien, 4k, one-shot)- Creecien, but make it Locked Tomb.
i usually run when the world starts ending (Jester/Artagan, 5k, one-shot)- Artagan deals with the consequences of godhood rules, being in love with Jester, and having a moral crisis while being too fey to function. I have been told this is one of the most Ghibli things I've ever written.
HELLAVERSE
carnage is not that conducive to passion (Stolitz, 7k, one-shot)- In which Blitz is used to lure Stolas into a trap, they argue about being broken up while actively being tortured, and violence and romance ensues.
all my bones want to taste your wicked wishes (ValAngel, 2k, one-shot)- A fic that explores Val and Angel's first meeting and the odd power dynamic between them given Angel was technically in Hell a lot longer.
this single night of pure lunacy (Gen, 19k, one-shot)- Human AU (sort of). Based loosely on Late Night With the Devil. In which Vox makes a deal with a demon in a swamp, believes this will have NO consequences for him, and then ten years later has his entire late night show implode around his ears.
HIGHLANDER
the piece of history that's been denied (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- A cute little story about how Joe and Methos first met.
HIS DARK MATERIALS (TV)
how the west was taken (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- A little coda to the end of 2x03. In which Lee has a flashback and he and Hester try to recover from getting tortured together.
the winds's full of snow and the sky's full of light (Lee/Iorek, 2k, one-shot) A little platonic Lee/Iorek fic involving trust exercises and wound tending. And Hester quipping.
INUYASHA/YASHAHIME
if i had a choice (you know i wouldn't fight this war) (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- Zero traps an injured Sesshoumaru in a cave with his daughters to see what happens. Awkward family bonding happens, which was not her intent.
the best's not happened yet (Gen, 1k, one-shot)- A cute little bonding scene between Rin and Jaken while Rin is pregnant with the twins.
this is the bargain i can't escape from (Gen, 1k, one-shot)- A fic that tries to explain things like "how the fuck were Kagome and Inuyasha surviving in a fucking hell dimension" and "wait can't Sesshoumaru walk into said hell dimension any time he wants?" while also pointing and laughing at him for sucking at being the main character.
and you're her lamb to slaughter (SessRin, 3k, one-shot)- I'm pretty sure the main intent of this fic was spite against SessRin haters and trying to prove a point about the fact that RIN HAS ALL THE POWER IN THAT RELATIONSHIP EMOTIONALLY, IF NOT PHYSICALLY. I stand by it.
so where the hell's odysseus? (Gen, 900, one-shot)- Coda to the season one finale. Sesshoumaru's A+ heroism decisions and bad parenting at work at their finest.
who we love, who we lose (Gen, 1k, one-shot)- I really, really believed Sesshoumaru was going to die and Towa was going to bring him back with Tenseiga. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. But here's what it would be like if it did.
your descent was prophesized (Gen, 5k, one-shot)- This was based on some wild mass guessing that ultimately was wrong, but I still really liked the idea of it. God we were robbed of Towa being the True Wielder of tenseiga. And Dog Mommy meeting her grandkids.
in case you don't live forever (SessRin, 26k, multichapter)- Rin saves Sesshoumaru, lives the life of a YA protagonist and a Hayao Miyazaki protagonist simultaneously, and I still think this fic is fully canon compliant and you can't tell me otherwise.
LOST
the boards across the windows mean there's nothing left to see (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- Missing scene from the series finale, because I felt like it was a CRIME that Ben and Juliet after all their history never interacted again after her betrayal. I figured they deserved a moment to reconcile before everyone passes on.
MARVEL (FILMS, VARIOUS UNIVERSES)
we burn to babylon (Eddie/Venom, unfinished, multichapter)- in which symbiotes stealing swords from their godking and declaring who should rule the Hive is not a basis for a system of government, Eddie Brock is suffering, Venom may or may not be dead, and Chris writes the tie-in novelization for a fourth movie that doesn’t exist as a writing exercise.
broke the back of the sky (gen, 19k, multichapter)- a fic that asks "what if Rocket wasn't in a coma for 85% of GotG Vol 3?" Involves me stealing an entire plot from an episode of LOST, Rocket having the worst time, and absolutely no furry animal people getting OBLITERATED.
sunshine came softly (gen, 3k, one-shot)- Rocket and Mantis bond post- GotG Vol2. One of my earliest fics posted on AO3! And still actively deserving of the popularity it has, imo. It's really cute.
you will still be here tomorrow (gen, 2k, one-shot)- Missing scene from GotG Vol 2 between Yondu and Rocket in the Ravager prison where Yondu fully reads him for filth. Again.
the lies that men told me (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- Rocket and Nebula deal with some complications while on a mission during the Blip timeskip. Thoroughly jossed by Vol 3, but still holds up despite that somehow.
THE OWL HOUSE
a door shuts, a key turns, and the world is lost (Gen, 3k, one-shot)- I wrote this after the season two finale and well, I think I ended up assuming The Collector would be more menacing than they actually were, but I still love this fic in terms of just OH GOD KING, BABY.
PUSHING DAISIES
our very own happy ending (Olive/Alfredo, 4k, one-shot) - Bryan Fuller owes me damages for these two not getting together and I decided to fix it long before it became clear that it wasn't happening. Unique in that I tried very hard to replicate the narrator's voice.
STEVEN UNIVERSE
(you cannot) silence ticking clocks (gen, 2k, one-shot)- Peridot tries to handle grief for the first time. Lapis reveals herself to be a little goth in the philosophical sense.
sing something else (gen, 4k, one-shot)- AU of the film where Spinel comes to Little Homeworld first, rejuvenates Peridot, and leaves Bismuth and Lapis to try and fix her. Seriously though how DID she get that drill??
SUPERNATURAL
leave the face cards on the table (gen, 2k, one-shot)- Fics so old they could be entering elementary school. This was written post Changing Channels and before Hammer of the Gods and was a sort of hope for how Gabriel might come into the narrative disguised as a character study.
count your blessings against the thunder (gen, 3k, one-shot)- Every SPN fic I have ever written has been a tragic pipe dream of what I wanted S5 to be and wasn't. This is no different. It's a cute little scene of Cas, Anna, and Gabriel deciding to be rebels.
the things i'm not obeying (gen, 4k, one-shot)- Probably my only canon compliant SPN fic. Since Season Four didn't have a Trickster episode like 2, 3, and 5 did, one has to wonder exactly what Gabriel was doing. Also I still think the events of Yellow Fever were fully Gabriel on stealth mode.
those wayward sons better carry on (gen, 5k, one-shot) - Castiel seeks out Gabriel to go find a MacGuffin to help stop the apocalypse. God, I wanted Castiel and Gabriel to have adventures together. Meta Fiction was a lie written to torment me specifically.
YELLOWJACKETS
turn the seasons round, my darling (MistyNat, 2k, one-shot) Tam Lin meets Orpheus and Eurydice meets Season Two finale fix-it.
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
Shippers don’t want onscreen kisses and crumbs, they want parallel suffering and separate action sequences occurring simultaneously culminating into a split screen “What the fuck?”
AO3 should have an Annotation Mode where you can click to view all of the author's commentary and thoughts about certain parts of the work. A little comment that says "I spent five hours researching vintage radio mechanics for this and didn't even end up using it" or "this is an ancient Hebrew literary technique!" would make my day
In the spirit of encouraging people to comment on fanfics while also making it easier to do so, I feel obliged to share a browser extension for ao3 that has quite literally revolutionized the comment game for me.
I present to you: the floating ao3 comment box!
From what I've seen, a big problem for many people is that once you reach the comments at the bottom of a fic, your memory of it miraculously disappears. Anything you wanted to say is stuck ten paragraphs ago, and you barely remember what you thought while reading. This fixes that!
I'll give a little explanation on the features and how it works, but if you want to skip all that, here's the link.
Edit: Yes, this also works on mobile!
The extension is visible as a small blue box in the upper left corner.
(Side note: The green colouring is not from the extension, that's me.)
If you click on it, you open a comment box window at the bottom of your screen but not at the bottom of the fic. I opened my own fic for demonstrative purposes.
The website also gives explanations on how exactly it functions, but I'll summarize regardless.
insert selection -> if you highlight a sentence in the fic it will be added in italics to the comment box
add to comment box -> once you're done writing your comment, you click this button and the entire thing will automatically copied to the ao3 comment box
delete -> self explanatory
on mulitchapter fics, you will be given the option to either add the comment to just the current chapter or the entire fic
The best part? You can simply close the window the same way you opened it and your progress will automatically be saved. So you can open it, comment on a paragraph, and then close it and keep reading without having the box in your face.
Comments are what keep writers going, and as both a writer and a reader, I think it's such an easy way of showing support and enthusiasm.
Bolaire Lathalia can be worn by someone voluntarily. Someone can wear him on purpose. He does not have to trick people into wearing him and take their lives and kill them. He can be worn by volunteers.
We know this. This is an established fact. This is how he worked up until he gained agency.
This is the context in which he kills.
In order to discuss whether or not he's a serial killer, you have to start with the fact that he deliberately chooses murder over pursuing other options, which he does have.
He can be worn by someone who chooses to wear him. He 100% knows this.
A lot of people have done a lot of murder apologia for Bolaire about how he has to do this for survival, but he doesn't. Like, flat out, he doesn't have to kill to continue to exist. He could choose to work with people and find compatible partners who are willing.
"character deserved better" (but they were never going to get it that's the stuff great tragedies are made of) vs "character deserved better" (but the writers really blew it)
There are few things funnier to me than the white-hot raging beef parents can have with fictional characters written for young children. You want to hear one of the funniest rants of your life, you ask nearly any parent of a young child their least favorite little cartoon guy. It'll be amazing.
the problem with movie remakes is that they always remake something that was already good, meaning at worst you ruin it and at best your remake is largely redundant. to make a truly good remake you need to start with source material that is absolute dogwater. ignore the pull of nostalgia. redeem the sins of moviemaking past.
