Such an AMAZING post! Read it and weep! #trunkupwines #trunkup @sheldricktrust ・・・ Today we received big news in a perfect package — Loijuk had a baby! The 14-year-old, who we rescued in 2006 and is now living wild, chose to return to our Ithumba stockades to give birth. Her good friends (and now nannies!) Naserian and Ithumbah were in tow, protectively shadowing Loijuk and her precious calf. She proudly paraded her little girl around, and was clearly eager to show her off to her beloved human family and the dependent orphans. Loijuk was particularly keen for Benjamin, our Ithumba Head Keeper, to meet her little bundle of joy. We have named our latest arrival — grandbaby number 31, that we know of — Lili. We think this is a beautiful and very fitting name, given that Loijuk was named after a swamp near the spot where she was rescued in Northern Kenya. While she was orphaned during a drought, this same place is totally transformed during favorable rains and becomes carpeted with water lilies. We are thrilled to welcome Lili into the world and to be able to witness this occasion with Loijuk.
