I had a cute trunwig fic idea (that I honestly might still write because it seems like it'd be short and sweet) where Hedwig offhandedly mentions how she enjoys arcades, and then for one of their anniversaries, Trunnion saving up the money to go take them to some big arcade place like Dave n Busters or something (even though most of the modern games are definitely heretical technology by Orthodoxy standards).

And Hedwig is so touched by it she almost has a positive breakdown because she's not used to having her interests acknowledged and she legitimately didn't know Trunnion remembered that.

Part of the reason I haven't started writing that Medieval AU (besides of course that I already have multiple long term fics going on) is also because. I'm not sure who I want to explore Hedwig's relationship with the most. 😭

Like Trunwig is the obvious one. Knight/princess will always be delicious. Bonus after Trunnion (and Hedwig) finds out she's also a robot, and then gets to fall harder for her nonhuman traits that she didn't get to show before (the wings).

But then I had the idea of -- and hear me out -- Saarn x Hedwig. Saarn snuck in and posed as a servant, but did her job so well she ended up as Hedwig's personal servant. She thinks this is great for her -- Hedwig isn't interested in punishing any of her servants, or really using them at all, except for her to be a chatterbox and infodump every single thing she's learned the past week at them. So Saarn's job has become 10x easier as she just sits there while Hedwig tells her all the gossip around the kingdom. And she might, just maybe, have to admit that Hedwig can be enjoyable to be around...

Lovataar I still haven't figured out where I'll fit her in this AU. But Hedwig is like the perfect kind of person for her to go insane over here -- she's a princess, equivalent to what Lova was when she joined Ion (though Hedwig is an only child ahskjkahxh), she's curious and despite her knowledge of the fucked up parts of the world, still manages to be Joyous (that part's actually her programming), she loves learning new information (Lova will talk to anyone about wasps and their essential role in their environments any day of the week, so Hedwig would gain a Wasp Person), and most importantly, she's cute. So like... "Corruption" princess arc, where Hedwig joins the nälkä? With Lova using the same methods Ion did to get her to join??? Delicious.

This one I don't really ship in a romantic way, but I do also like imagining Robert's feelings in this AU. Unlike the modern day, his memories of the empire are far closer here. I think, just like with Trunnion, once he connects the dots on who Hedwig is, he'll be incredibly overcome with guilt (doubly so because of... Lore thing I have about Helen), and will try his absolute best to make Hedwig's life as happy as he can. Lots of personal, handmade gifts, letting her sneak into digsites and look at projects that she otherwise wouldn't be able to, even as a princess. Hedwig wouldn't really have the information necessary to figure out why he's like this -- hell, even if she figured out she's actually an AI copy of Helen, she still wouldn't be able to figure it out -- but she only keeps track of him a little, because he's otherwise a useful resource for her to get what she wants. She doesn't want to ruin their relationship by accidentally digging too deep and having him push her away.

But yeah. Basically, my problem is that I keep turning my AUs into visual novels with like five million routes and that's harder to explore in the usual fanfic format I write in -- hey wait a minute. I have done some things with Ren'Py before... And if I don't want that much art I kmow how to use Twine... There's nothing stopping me from actually making this a VN...
