“YOU LOOK LOVELY”

There’s nothing new about “derivative” art, but after ignoring this piece since I first saw it a few years ago, wondering who Trusto is that he / they would have the nerve to copy Tristan Eaton so blatantly, I finally did some investigation—Oops! Sorry Tristan! Come to discover that several years ago Eaton was behind a mysterious collective calling themselves Trusto Corp, giving themselves a little freedom to take some rather more pointed jabs at society and human behavior. The last reference I can find to Trusto Corp is from 2013, as they prepared for a May 2013 show—”The Future Is Blight”—at the LeBasse Projects gallery in Culver City, California, leading me to assume this work painted just a month earlier was intended to help promote the show. This mural is at the Lyric Hyperion Theatre and Cafe on Hyperion Ave. in the Silver Lake neighborhood of LA. @tristaneaton @trustocorp @lyrichyperion
