What are your thoughts on nuclear weapons and the risk they pose? Is it overblown, considering the shifting stances of the US and Russia, especially the latter as of this week?

haha i have a lot of thoughts. but i'll try to keep it brief.

i have a skepticism of russia's nuclear capabilities but for pragmatic reasons i like to assume that they are as capable as they claim. would rather overestimate their abilities than underestimate. i've just lost a lot of faith in russia since the start of this ukraine war. they've demonstrated a remarkable degree of incompetence. and russia is well-known for its corruption. i've heard horror stories about the state of their arsenal.

but again, for pragmatic reasons let's assume their arsenal is well-maintained and highly capable.

even so, i believe nuclear war is winnable.

but however capable russia is i believe america is even more capable. and i'm under no delusion that we would emerge from a nuclear exchange unscathed. i just think america is built different. specifically, i think america is just built in such a way that it has much greater survivability (for reasons i can maybe get into in another post). many will die but america will survive. and i think russia will not. if our counterforce strikes don't work, then our countervalue strikes will. and then america will still be able to wage a conventional war, however hamstringed, and finish the job. especially when we consider america's allies.

this is why i'm actually not too worried. because i think deep down russia knows this too. that's why they haven't done anything.

but to take it a step further, another reason i'm not afraid: i long for a nuclear holocaust.

nuclear bombs, nuclear power, the splitting of the atom....these are actually incorporated into my religion. i think the nuclear bomb is a holy weapon. and i think that america being cleansed by holy fire could be a good thing.

i think it would be only a "minor" (relatively speaking) setback and ultimately result in america's eternal and uncontested global hegemony. as the gods intend.

so mote it be.
