I recently whipped my trumpet out to play for longer than 15 minutes for the first time since 2022 and… I think I just might have to cook up some more memes. I can’t guarantee quality and I also camt promise some aren’t stolen tiktoks from years ago… but…..
Fun Story: My director kept telling me and my tenor sax buddy to play softer. No matter what we did, it wasn’t soft enough for him. So getting frustrated, I told my buddy “Dont play this time. Just fake it”
Our Band Director then informed us we sounded perfect.
To my readers: “p” means quiet, “pp” means really quiet. I’ve never seen “pppp” before haha.
On the contrast, “f” means loud, and “ffff” probably means so loud you go unconscious.
I had ffff in a piece once and my conductor told me to play as loudly as physically possible without falling off my chair…
Me and my trombone buddies had “ffff” and he sat next to me and played so hard that he fell out of his chair.

Okay yeah so I play the bass clarinet and the amount of air you have to move and the stiffness of the reed means it only has two settings and that is loud and louder, with an optional LOUDEST that includes a 50% probability of HORRIBLE CROAKING NOISE which is the bass equivalent of the ubiquitous clarinet shriek.
One day, when I was in concert band in high school, we got a new piece handed out for the first time, and there was a strange little commotion back in the tuba section — whispering, and pointing at something in the music, and swatting at each other’s hands all shhh don’t call attention to it. And although they did attract the attention of basically everyone else in the band, they managed to avoid being noticed by the band director, who gave us a few minutes to look over our parts and then said, “All right, let’s run through it up to section A.”
And here we are, cheerfully playing along, sounding reasonably competent — but everyone, when they have the attention to spare, is keeping an eye on the tuba players. They don’t come in for the first eight measures or so, and then when they do come in, what we see is:
[stifled giggling]
[reeeeeeally deep breath]
[COLOSSAL FOGHORN NOISE]
The entire band stops dead, in the cacophonous kind of way that a band stops when it hasn’t actually been cued to stop. The band director doesn’t even say anything, just looks straight back at the tubas and makes a helpless sort of why gesture.
In unison, the tuba players defend themselves: “THERE WERE FOUR F’S.”
FFFF is not really a rational dynamic marking for any instrument, but for the love of all that is holy why would you put it in a tuba part.

Oh man, so I play trombone, and we got this piece called Florentiner Marsch by Julius Fucik, and we saw this

In my defense, don’t tell a trumpet to play at forteississississimo. Because they will not disappoint.

I would never do this if I didnt need it, but I really need help.
Around 8 months ago, my boyfriend died in a car accident and about two weeks ago, right after one of my mom’s dogs had to be put to sleep, my boyfriend’s dad killed himself. My job put me on leave for what was supposed to be a week, but now its becoming 3 weeks and I cant afford anything anymore. I have $45 to my name and all of that has to go to gas.
At this rate, I’m going to miss my car payment again and my mom cant keep covering it. I recently turned 18 and all of my birthday money has gone to trying to stay afloat, and while typing this, I’m holding back a full blown panic attack because I cant handle the money stress and grieving.
If you can help at all, it would be very appreciated, but if not I fully understand. If you feel comfortable, please share this. I cant lose my car, shes all I have left. Right now, I’m starving to save all the money I can for her.

my boyfriend died
so… if you know what an ihop is, that will help, but if you don’t:

so… freshman year, at my first high school, we would try to get everyone in the section to meet up at a restaurant after football games to eat and talk together, really just to hang out and chill
now, by the time the 26 of us got there, it would have been somewhere around midnight… bear in mind they close at 1-2 am
now imagine, 5 total people working vs 26 hungry band kids… it took at least one hour for everything to be made, plus the time to eat, and then they had to split every check amongst people who are paying for themselves, paying for some parts of other’s food, etc.
the checks kept getting messed up, some of the food was wrong, it was chaos but in the funny way
we didn’t leave until 3 am, with a comp the next day
…it’s really only funny looking back tbh
being in a small college now, theres’s no marching band… there’s not even a concert band, which is actually pretty sad to me
i’ve met a few ex- marching band kids, which is kind of sweet, but as of right now i have no new stories…
i’ll try to remember back and tell old stories, and probably snag some memes from my friends in their junior and senior year if i’m able, but as of right now there may not be much content because of this
i’m sorry, i cut my highschool experience short by a year and the last two were…. less than desirable anyways, by a lot, so really it’s my fault, but i’ll try to keep going as best as i can
i just got so tired of everything they said about me, but i don’t wanna get too sappy, your regularly-ish scheduled memes will be back someday soon, and i’ll try to post a story after this
