really really love the concept of that “pre-war quartz soldier Rose” and Greg meeting her at that time from that picture
Grown-up Greg with post-war trauma
Things he couldn't understand, could hardly comprehend, and most definitely couldn't do a thing about happening all around him, but still he refused to leave Rose's side as she seemed less interested in killing him and more interested in the little things she kept finding about the Earth each day
In the beginning, she'd probably be careless and watch him run around trying to defend himself or hide during a battle and eventually, after their time getting to know each other, she'd take a stand and protect him from a direct hit with her shield
it would be like this HUGE AMAZING THING and Greg gets the STARRY EYES because wOW is Rose suddenly way more beautiful than anything he’s ever seen in his entire life pls calm my beating heart
Greg teaches her planet things. like Steven said to Peridot (i dont remember the exact quote), "My dad taught me these things."
Which would be a total parallel with Rose, who also learned those things from him
Pearl growing tired of watching him hinder them by nearly dying all the time and teaching him how to defend himself, how to fight back within his limits, and how he can be more of a helper than a hindrance to their progress
I really
REALLY
really
love this concept
I was drawing Sardonyx yesterday and realized that she has pink diamonds on her shoes, do you think this is significant in some way? :o (I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not heh)
ah yea, I love that feature. Its sneaky and easy to miss, but no doubt significant. I feel like it almost definitely comes from Pearl’s contribution to the fusion, since the diamond symbol/pink diamond has recurred a few times with her. There’s a pink diamond on her spacesuit and when she and Rose form Rainbow Quartz, the cutout around Rose’s gem is a half-star/half-diamond shape. Add that to the pink diamonds on Sardonyx and it becomes a pattern (plus, we know Sapphire was part of Blue Diamond’s court and we don’t know which Diamond, if any, Ruby belonged to but she had no pink diamonds on her outfit in “The Answer”)
Why Pearl contributes this diamond isn’t entirely clear, but definitely significant in some way. It seems like that Pearl was part of Pink Diamond’s court, either belonging to Pink Diamond herself or to another member of Pink Diamond’s court (like Rose, perhaps), thus making her prone to having the diamond symbol. It makes sense on her spacesuit, since its presumably an old design (from before the rebellion), the diamonds on Rainbow Quartz and Sardonyx are curious, though, since they’re both from long after the rebellion.
So there are a few possibilities here. One, if Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond, Pearl might still be subconsciously attached to the symbol as an expression of loyalty towards her. Even if she doesn’t consciously view the symbol as pertaining to Rose, she’s subconsciously reluctant to let go of it.Another possibility is that, if she belonged to the Pink Diamond court for part of her life, the pink diamond symbol could be kind of ‘programmed’ into her and thus possibly manifest in some of her forms if she’s not actively getting rid of it (as she would when reforming). The spacesuit is old, from before the rebellion, and fusions form ‘naturally’, what they look like isn’t deliberately decided by the component Gems. Perhaps its more likely to form with fusions of other formerly loyal to the Diamond authority Gems, like Rose and Garnet (well, Garnet was never loyal but Ruby and Sapphire were), because the only fusion of Pearl’s that doesn’t have a diamond symbol is Opal and possibly Alexandrite (though the knee-stars are four-pointed, which could indicate an influence of the diamond shape).
in anycase, I believe that since we first see it as early as “Space Race”, the use of the pink diamond symbol on Pearl’s spacesuit was very much meant to foreshadow the existence of Pink Diamond (and perhaps tease the possibility of Rose being Pink Diamond) as well as raise the question as to why she’s missing from the modern Homeworld symbol. Showing it again as part of Sardonyx’s modern design seems to be indicative of something about Pearl we’re not privy to yet, but they want us to notice it and wonder about it.
(sidenote - I don’t want to get into a ‘Rose is/isn’t Pink Diamond’ debate right now, though, ‘cause imo the theory is split pretty evenly right now with a decent amount of evidence for or against it. Without any new information its at a complete stalemate right now (and we’ve all talked about the theory A LOT already))
Finished @tryingmomentarily s bear I said I would draw
I hope I got everything right on shine. @tryingmomentarily
