Is there a reason why you're okay with tattoo needles but not vaccine needles?

Had a Medical Trauma as a kid that slowly tapered down from “seeing a person in a white jacket triggers a meltdown so bad Mom has to take me off the bus” to “literally everything at the hospital is fine but hypodermic needles trigger a phobic reaction”.

It’s JUST hypodermic needles, too. I used to be able to do this party trick where I could stick a sewing needle like an inch into my face or chest no problem, but I still have a hard time HOLDING an EpiPen- my friends have to tell me when it’s safe to look after one appears in a movie.

Soft childhood brain just siphoned off ALL the “Danger Bad Times” from the event and slowly worked to pin it on one single medical thing that wasn’t even involved in the inciting event.

Like, the Big Trauma had nothing at all to do with needles, and I was fine with them until then.

Yaoshi has plenty of methods when it comes to dispensing their blessings to others.

So I have pretty bad insomnia, and I ran out of my normal meds last night but I found my old jar of melatonin gummies... I KNOW okay, but I actually cannot physically sleep without help and I figured it would be better than nothing, but man was I wrong. My love for my current stuff is so much stronger now, I hadn't really noticed that I no longer had sleep paralysis but taking that melatonin sent me on the craziest cycle of hallucinations, then nightmares, and then sleep paralysis with hallucinations. Not fun at all. But good news is I picked up my meds today so no more creepy old lady's trying to stab me with a bunch of needles or just literally giggling from a dark corner of my room ...

clowns. i’m– just… this one time I was walking through the city with a friend of mine and we walked down a this street. Ahead of us there was a clown giving away balloons to kids and I had to cross the street bc I did not want to pass him at all.

spiders. not as much anymore though, they fascinate me, but I like to keep my distance. It was horrible when I was little, I would always freak out. This one time there was a spider near my bed and I waited for my dad to come home from work late at night, so he could remove it. I refused to enter my room until he did so.

needles. Actually, not really needles perse, I’m not scared of the pinch of a syringe. Just the fact that something’s beneath my skin/in my flesh freaks me the fuck out, I think I might be paranoid about that when it comes to piercings as well, I don’t know what the phobia is called tho (trypanophobia? it’s more the fear of syringes, from what I understood), or if it’s even a legit thing in the first place.

I’ve never officially been diagnosed with it, but I think I do show some symptoms of social anxiety. It’s little things that are usually not weird, but I’m anxious about other people judging me for it. For example: You know how in winter you can “see” people exhale, because it’s so cold outside? Yeah, I still spend so much energy on being paranoid that people think my breathing rhythm is too slow or too fast and that they’ll judge me as weird because of it. I know it’s silly, but I still feel paranoid about it. I know other people have it a lot worse though, when it comes to (social) anxiety.

stupid body tricks, part two zillion

there is a big ol’ bruise on my inner elbow left over form my bloodwork on tuesday--not because the phlebotomist failed it, but because i sneezed mid-draw and the needle poked the other side of my vein or something.

i was like “well butts.”
