The main verse for Melinda is she’s a fourteen year old in her first year of high school. She’s an outcast since her friends from middle school including her best friend abandoned her after an incident at a summer party. She called 911 and the party was busted so she was a squealer. No one knows that in reality she got drunk and was raped by a senior. She sinks into depression and silence.
She has PTSD but is unaware of it. All she knows is sudden movements towards her like hugging, touch of the shoulder makes her jumpy and nervous. She starts off by speaking few words to people she first meets and doesn’t really smile.
