Theories: From Episodes 1 & 2!

It wouldn’t surprise me if Homer finds out he’s a Demigod or the descendant of a god later on in the series. If the gods exists, that means demigods, monsters, fates, etc all exist in this world too—

Why would the god who sent Hades to earth involve all the gods? And why? Hades so far seems to be the only one having a hard time of it, the rest either seem to be going with the flow or seeing this as a minor setback. I don’t think the god responsible is Zeus. He may like to shame the others, but his ego would not also put him stuck as a human too.

Likely suspects are more Persephone, Demeter, Apollo, or Hera— they all seem to have more of a vengeance streak when it comes to their stories—

Also Zeus being the head of a frat so funny, the Greek letters are probably Alpha Alpha Alpha or some bullshit like that—

Episode 3 they were saying that they were headed out to the track/athletic field. I suspect that means we will be meeting either Zeus, Apollo, Artemis and/or Heracles in the next ep—

Matthessy = Odyssey (took me a while to make that connection but this is Homer’s Odyssey)

I have a theory about outfits as well. So far we’ve seen that each god wears a shade of red. If we meet gods that aren’t wearing red, it could be a hint of them lying/withholding info later down the road—

There will definitely be more ghosts that Hades calls up: possibly more inventors, athletes, artists, teachers, etc. I’m going to call out Albert Einstein as one of them lol who knows but it’s a guess—

There might be mention of Hades’ Roman counterpart and they might make a joke about how Pluto isn’t a planet anymore— this one is frivolous but I think it’d be funny lol

Since Homer’s last name is Lehrer, which is German for instructor/teacher, I do believe Homer will find his calling in teaching by the end of this series and that will be the career he pursues—

If Hades offers Homer any food he should NOT EAT IT under any circumstances! This is exactly how he got Persephone to stay in the underworld. If Hades is annoyed with Homer he may just do this. It might happen later on and Homer’s trust might be betrayed—

Another thing, I do believe that Homer is also going to eventually change Hades mind about caring more about humans ending up in Tartarus. I really REALLY want The Good Place ending where they fixed the points system and people could try harder to get into heaven after death—

Finally, my last theory is that by the end of this series, the only thing that Hades will like about humanity is Homer, and Homer will win the bet because of this. I don’t think that anything Homer shows him will ever satisfy, BUT because Homer sticks with him, he will be guaranteed a place in Elysium so Hades can visit his soul whenever he wants when he goes back home. Homer giving Hades attention (possibly affection? 👀) is ultimately what I think Hades craves. If Persephone can’t, or has other interests, then possibly a human like Homer could—

Honestly though, Hades and Homer arguing about dishes is such a married couple fight, I can confirm one person will always have a problem with the way the other does dishes 😂😂😂😂

(Also re: peplos: a dress worn in ancient Greece lol)

Hades saying ‘you’re a person’ while walking and the sun hitting his eye in a way that really does make him look like a god, it’s kinda perfect 😎🖤

Hermes saying this like tomato, tomahto is great because I don’t think they had tomatoes in Ancient Greece at all, I think they thought they were poisonous— (which if you hate tomatoes like I do, they are 😝)

On the subject of etymology of names— Dr. Strom! Strom is German for electricity⚡️ ! So an electric automaton, its hidden in plain sight in his name lol

Another thing I realized about names— Homer’s last name is Lehrer which is German for instructor. I’m sure this is applying to the fact that he’s ‘teaching’ Hades about the joys of being human to win—

My absolute favourite thing is Hades’ not-so-subtle jealousy when Homer said he wanted to move in with Hephaestus. Homer tried to downplay by saying ‘you don’t want to live with a nerd’, but Hades then insisted that Homer should try harder with his bet and OMG HE’S SO JEALOUS 😂

Lastly, Thomas put the song ‘Weird Science’ by Oingo Boingo on the promo post for this episode which is hilarious because it was about 2 geeks brings a girl to life with computers… exactly what Hephaestus did with Dr Strom—

And the fact that Hephaestus’ style is very 80s makes soooo much more sense because of that haha

Celebrating the 1 Year Anniversary of My Roommate Is Hades! PART 1!

Episode 1: MY ROOMMATE IS HADES (Air Date: November 11, 2023)

All The Fun Details!

The title ‘My Roommate Is Hades’ is a double meaning, like my roommate is Hades as in literal Hades, god of the underworld; but also the place Hades (which is another word for Hell), so exactly like saying ‘my roommate is hell’ LOL

Hades talks about fighting crocodiles in the Colosseum. In Ancient Rome, gladiators did fight animals like crocodiles, as well as bears, lions, even ostriches. These animal fights were rare but they did happen.

Hades is the god of wealth and riches, he takes Homer’s food because he doesn’t like to spend his own money. This is also the reason he’s wearing several pieces of jewelry, to show his wealth.

Ancient Greece has also been depicted by nude art and culture. Hades might be idealizing the majority how Greeks acted to make his point, but there was definitely a sense of pride in showing off a healthy nude body during games, exercise or in bath houses during this time. In fact it is said that some of the first Olympic Games in Ancient Greece had athletes compete in the nude.

Cerberus is a three-headed watchdog that guards Hades (the god and the place) and prevents any souls from escaping. And he gives him skritches because YES

The comment about feeding Cerberus ‘Prometheus Meat’ is that that meat is a neverending source of food. The myth is that Prometheus stole fire from the gods and brought it to humanity. As punishment he was chained to a rock and an eagle would come down and eat his liver every day. Prometheus being a god would always have his liver grow back just in time for the eagle to come back again and eat it.

Having Zeus as a brother was probably an endless source of shame for Hades but one of the major things that Hades might be referring to is promising Persephone to be Hades wife and then going back on his word. The truth is that Demeter, her mother, asked Zeus to intervene (most likely unbeknowst to her that Zeus OK’d the arrangement in the first place) asked Hermes to take Persephone back from the underworld, going against his word to Hades and shaming him. However Persephone had to keep coming back because she ate pomegranate seeds while there, and once you eat underworld food you can’t leave. So Hades made a deal that she could always come back in the spring (which is why we have seasons!).

Benjamin Franklin did invent swim fins (like feet flippers you wear on your hands) at age 11! He was an avid swimmer, and the fins helped with soreness in his wrists, so the fins helps him swim longer without pain!

The 5 rivers of Hades are: The Styx (River of the Underworld); Phlegethon (River of Fire); Lethe (River of Forgetting); Acheron (The Ferry River/River of Woe); and Cocytus (River of Wailing). And no, they aren’t very nice lol

Elysian Fields (heaven) is where heroes and the most selfless/self sacrificing people go when they die but only true villains and enemies of the gods should get locked away in Tartarus (actual hell). The rest are supposed to end up in a purgatory type place called The Fields of Asphodel. However Hades says that almost everyone these days ends up in Tartarus with no apparent reason why. It honestly sounds like a Good Place scenario and I’m wondering if that might be a plot point later on—
