September 7th is Threatened Species Day, and to celebrate the @tscommissioner has organised a Threatened Species Bakeoff for the second year running, to raise awareness for our threatened species. My last minute entry is the Western Swamp Tortoise (Pseudemydura umbrina). Here it's looking a bit more swamp than it is tortoise, but you get the idea.🐢 Listed as Critically Endangered, it is Australia's most endangered reptile, with small populations restricted within the Swan Coastal Plain of WA. In summer months it aestivates (summer version of hibernation) under leaves (as shown by my kitchen bay leaves lol) 🍃 they are a small species growing up to around 15cm, with five claws on their webbed feet and tubercles on their necks. #threatenedspeciesday #tsbakeoff #threatenedspeciescommissioner #tscommissioner https://www.instagram.com/p/BnUscqhjJwJ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16e2d2gizo1b8
