Oh cool! Although I’m pretty sure fandom caught most. (oh, and I was even cited in this one! as was finalproblem! how swanky!)
THIS IS INTERESTING THO:
10. The bus/flower scene was inspired by the same thing happening in real life to a friend of Mark Gatiss called, aptly enough, Edmund Moriarty: “His daughter was very young and he’d been up all night with her and he got on the tube to White City and this very beautiful girl started smiling at him and he thought ‘Still got it!’ and he got all the way there and got to work, looked in the mirror and he had a flower in his hair and that’s what she’d been looking at” Gatiss told the audience at a December screening of the episode.
Here’s the article, under the cut!
About tea and trashJohn
There’s this parallel that has been going on and on in my head and I’ll try to put it into words.
For anyone who you ever ask, John is the one who does everything in the flat. Well, at least when he was there. If you ask anyone who was more likely to make tea when they were living together, anyone would say John. But John is never seen making tea. Ever. Sherlock is seen making tea. Why do we jump to this conclusion? Maybe because the show is telling you something, even when it is clearly showing otherwise, and you go with what is being said instead of looking? The recurrent joke is that Sherlock is a sociopath who cares for nothing and is rude. Which was -in some way- true in the first series (again, in some way. Now we see it in a different light). But it is not true anymore. He’s still rude, but we can see clearly that he’s not a sociopath. Still, the joke is still there.
So if anyone in the show would make a joke about Sherlock not making tea ever, or if John were to complain about Sherlock never making tea, we’d swallow the joke, because of the recurrent joke that Sherlock is an arsehole. Even if Sherlock does make tea.
So that leads to the fact that John has always been a trashcan. Now more than ever, but he’s always been a dick. But Sherlock was more of a dick than him. Now it’s the other way around. Still, the recurrent joke is that Sherlock always fucks up and hurts John and must always compensate.
So John, while calling Sherlock an arsehole, saying he never thanks anything he ever does - although John has never thanked him for anything and Sherlock actually thanked John for breathing the same air as him in front of 100 people - has the good side of the joke. He’s still making the same joke about Sherlock being a sociopath. And people are still swallowing it. Because Sherlock is the one who’s a jerk, not John.
It’s the same as the tea. We’re seeing John being an arse, we saw Sherlock saying thanks, but we HEAR about Sherlock not caring for feelings, and somehow it blocks what we see (and by we, I mean, the casual viewer, not actually we)
Which leads us to Mary’s death. Sherlock did literally everything he could’ve possibly done to save her. He showed more love towards her than John. He did one fuck up, one little fuck up, which was being himself, and he got himself a lifetime of self hate and blame. John did not see that. John does not know that Sherlock made the woman shoot. He doesn’t know anything. That is not the reason why John is angry.
John is angry because Sherlock never makes tea.
John is angry because he feels entitled to feel angry and blame Sherlock, because that happened so many times. It’s never himself. It’s not him that was supposed to protect his wife, or be loyal, or anything. He has so much guilt in her death that he projects everything on the guy who’s always the one to blame. Always the one that attracts danger and that gets everyone around him hurt.
But it wasn’t Sherlock, was it? It was Mary’s past. Mary didn’t die because everyone around Sherlock gets hurt. She died because her past came back to hunt her. Sherlock was just protecting her.
But we swallow the reason why John is angry and we swallow that this is an okay behavior - blaming Sherlock and not, per say, the woman who actually shot them both. Because Sherlock never makes tea.
I still think the "personal tragedy" will be related to John on some level since in TLD they're "estranged"
Yeah that’s the first thing that came to my mind. But a reviewer who mentioned John as “sidekick”, would they call their estrangement “tragedy”? idk. Maybe the impact of the estrangement is so great.. that it’s heartbreaking..I really don’t know. I can’t think.
" NO WAY " Moment
I think the "NO WAY" moment is not Mary.. Coz it wouldn't be a surprise now if someone comes chasing her.. Given her past profession... I had a thought it could be molly.. That would be most unexpected.. Also could be john too.. We did see john meeting someone at the bus stop during setlock.. It could be Sherlock also.. Coz mark said in on of his PBS Q&A answers that Sherlock was his favourite villain.. May be he has a dark past.. Something other than and worse than drug habbit..
just watched the scorch trials and Im disappointed af… I mean, I enjoyed watching it and stuff but seriously, they changed too many things. I really felt like it was a different story, too many things were innacurate it was just… idk Im disappointed. I already thought they changed too many things in the first movie but omg it’s worst for tst… how can james dashner accept the fact that they totally change his story? like wtf there’s so many things they could have done better, but no they really wanted it to be full of actions all the time, it was too much. but Im not saying it was bad, I’d be lying… it was okay.
