Dog Teeth by Dreadfulbeauties (a fanwork of The Red Shoes (1948) x Tsukishima - Golden Kamuy

#I've been thinking about how Tsurumi gives those in his inner-inner sanctum the tools to dismantle him #(or to use the fic's metaphor: rip out the teeth that make him so dangerous)#like he makes them (Fina Tsukishima Koito) all doubt him and does nothing to like 100% stamp out that doubt #It's like what anime Koito says:#“you can only feel like somebody loves you after you test them with a lie”#So much of Tsurumi's life is defined by fate and that's why he's so desperate for certainty #will you put your hand in a snarling dog's mouth even when you know you'll be bitten? Can you still love the dog after being bitten?#That's why he clings so hard to Fina and Tsukishima #(or at the very least assumes Fina would stay by his side bc that's why he told her his true name)#and I think that's why he could never generate such a bond with Koito bc Koito has shown time and time again to not want to go tht far #(esp when u compare him to Usami who he is constantly shocked/disgusted by bc of how deep his devotion to Tsurumi is)#He will not put his hand inside because he was raised by a father that proved he didn't have to do that #Heji reiterates Koito's worth by putting himself in harm's way on his behalf like a father should #and that's why Koito can't stand by and watch Tsukishima metaphorically and physically blow himself up #for someone whose devotion to him is a guess that can only truly be confirmed after he dies (bc Tsurumi loves to project onto the dead)#And how different is any of that from Ogata's entire character???
