This is all Mamura’s fault.

Inukai never thought that such a sentence could exist. Mamura is a peace-loving guy, after all. He keeps to himself and avoids causing trouble for others because he hates it when others do that to him. In their five years of friendship, Inukai can’t remember a time he was ever angry at Mamura. 

And because Inukai couldn’t say no to Mamura, he now finds himself in a large dance studio, standing awkwardly without a partner while the other couples in the room pair off. Mamura looks at him apologetically. Suzume has her arm looped through his, chewing on the last bit of a spare riceball she’d packed in her bag. 

"Maybe we should’ve asked Nekoma along after all," Mamura coughs.

Inukai tries to imagine Nekoma and him waltzing. He can’t. Nekoma would sooner learn hip hop.

"Excuse me." He feels someone tapping his shoulder. 

Inukai turns to face them. It’s a young girl who looks about his age. Inukai can’t help but stare at her bouncy hair and striking eyes. She must be pretty brave to be able to approach a stranger, and he notices that she’s as tall as him - maybe even taller. To say that Inukai doesn’t mind it would be a lie, but he doesn’t quite dislike it either. He feels his face burn with embarrassment.

"Would you like to be my dance partner?" she asks, a friendly smile playing at the corners of her lipstick-red mouth. Then, she raises her empty palm to him, either expecting him to shake it or to hold it.

Inukai finds his hand taking hers before he can even get the words out of his mouth.

She grins at him, not minding even a bit.

hey i was wondering if you knew the chapters with tsurukai in them? i definitely passed them by when reading hnr the first time and i would go back to find them but there are so many chapters now. also i think you are the reason this fandom cares so much about them as they do now so thanks (๑>◡<๑)

I SURE DO! Chapter 32 (inukai MAKES HIS MOVE with that average joe face but tsuru is still a blush!!!), Chapter 36 (the first (??? or is it?) of many love bentos to be shared), Chapter 55 (ever alert nana teases tsuru about inukai!!! it is revealed they haven’t kissed… YET….)

and lastly, Chapter 58 (the love bento saga continues!!!!!!!)
