I Look in People’s Windows
Peter and cardigan are from Wendy’s perspective.
I Look in People’s Windows is from Peter’s perspective.
“North bound I got carried away
As you boarded your train south”
Peter stays in Neverland while Wendy chooses to leave.
The train imagery echoes Wendy’s perspective in cardigan:
“Cause I knew you
Steppin’ on the last train
Marked me like a bloodstain”
“A feather taken by the wind blowing
I’m afflicted by the not knowing”
Peter lives in a carefree way in Neverland, oblivious to Wendy’s whereabouts in the real world.
So when he finally returns to the real world,
he looks in people’s windows in search of Wendy.
Peter is “addicted to the ‘if only’” and “[haunts] all of [Wendy’s] what-ifs”.
Young Peter sees adults having “their friends over to drink nice wine”, hoping grown-up Wendy will look up and meet his eyes one more time.
But little does he know,
she has stopped and tilted her head,
she has stopped waiting for him.
He “tried to change the ending”
but “Peter losing Wendy” has become an inevitable truth.
With the use of the train imagery in the beginning, the poem can be interpreted as
Peter being on board a train and watching the houses pass by,
“attending Christmas parties from outside”,
in search of Wendy’s warmth
but it’s no longer there
because she thinks Peter is “lost to the lost boys chapter of [his] life”.
Sadly, “the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light”.
my boy only breaks his favorite toys @ttpdpoetryweek
lucifer was god’s favorite he only followed his nature to question, to be curious for that, he fell
and i was your favorite you followed your nature to tell, to be helpful for that, i fell
and you were my favorite i rejected my nature to hate, to be vengeful why does it still feel like i fell?
Guilty as Sin?
am i guilty as sin, guilty as charged if i learn to shut down, to know who you are with no way to escape am i your willing friend?
we are first-second-third, what i deserve cut the middle-man out, now i'm built to serve if i do what you want can you give me my end
spirit away, another's mistake it was never my choice, take me again if i swear loyalty, please promise me back my place
learning to play the cowardly way despise courteous feet, twisting away there's the sting of your hand, still have your brand on my face
smile too fond, beach and bleach-blond if i give in to this, hard to resist he might make me complete, brushing the teeth from my throat
another home, dust, open roads if i'm learning to love, learning to cope will you forgive me when i now and then let you go?
TTPD Poetry Week 1: Castles Crumbling
Castles Crumbling (Jen’s Version)
Can you hear it now?
As we stand here, breathing in the rubble
Save me, hold me close
They’ve changed, screaming hate we’ve never known
Let down, I let them down.
Each face I see transforms my heart to dust
Save me from myself, won’t you?
Can you hear it now?
Remind me of the bells that once tolled.
Undo these mistakes, hold my hand as we try to heal.
My darkness, my light, my choices are bare to them all.
Brave this with me, won’t you?
Look at the sky, can you see the stars?
I know we can fight this, even as it crashes down around us.
Never give up.
Give only more.
