well this turned into a rant

did kinda depressing TTRPG thing today… finally completely cleared my TTRPG table, it was set up for the last vtm game day like almost 2 months ago, it was all just waiting there character sheets and dice just waiting for a game that would never come, all because one of the players and i quote "all the bullshit v5 changes and how bad bloodlines 2 is, its tainted the franchise... the devs clearly don't care about there setting so why should we" all of that is a load of shit cos we play v20 but this all just happens to coincide with them falling into a cyberpunk hyperfixation as well as some other habits that i just cant ignore anymore, they would just make broken characters get bored of them then make new a broken character

legitimately i think thats what the real issue was, it happened so often, they would make a cool but busted character i would write them in to the story they would play that character for a few sessions get board of being op or think of a new busted character and want to play that instead and just repeat the pattern over and over and now its with game systems as well as characters

(shit. this is how they play video games as well like one for one in the last few moths they have started 10+ cyberpunk 2077 runs all with different builds and have yet to finish the game through once) they actually treat me like a fucking tool for there personal enjoyment, and cos i reuses to reset the story every time so they can try there new build they just move on to the next thing in a 5 year dnd game they had 6 PC none of them died btw, they just got bored of them and had them retire or get really reckless to get try to them killed, once they even killed another PC so their character would get kicked from the party. yep killed another pc at the table that was fun ( said with all the sarcasm) and that DND game ended because of them with the same excuse in the VTM game they had 4 backup characters (broken builds all of them btw) but cos its such a rp focused game and character driven story they couldn't pull that dnd BS again, just manipulated situation.

now i just straight up refuses to run any long form games for them ever again, i have already been a forever dm for this group for years, if they want any more ttrpgs they can run it themselves i refuse to keep being a disposable story telling Machine.... (just for context the quoted player is my house mate and in a way their partner my other house mate that just mirrors everything they say.

and excluding them and continuing the game while they live here feels like a really shitty ting to do )

A couple weeks ago a guy who doesn’t play in my Call of Cthulhu game was sitting in on the online session as we were chatting and getting started.

Our Keeper doesn’t mind that (he regularly streams games online, though I myself don’t play in those) and the rest of us don’t usually mind observers either.

But this guy is a misogynist prick. He’s the kind of heavy drinking grognard that gives old school gamers a bad name. And he started talking about his daughter, referring to her as “that bitch.”

So I said “don’t call your daughter a bitch.”

And he (and another one or two players in my game) start going “ohh, she doesn’t mind! It’s just a joke, I/he raised her to take no shit from anyone” etc etc

And I said “I don’t take shit from anyone either, and that includes tolerating a man referring to his own daughter as a bitch. Don’t do that in front of me again.”

And he made some halfhearted comment about how it was just a joke, and left the chat pretty soon after that.

So I said, after he left, “I’m sorry for creating an awkward situation but I meant what I said.”

The keeper said something like “oh, it’s fine, he won’t be offended.” He went on to sort of mitigate the issue though, finally saying “well, you know, my wife and daughter refer to each other as bitch all the time, it’s not a word that causes much offense any more”

So I said “do YOU call either of them bitch?” Radio silence. “Exactly. It’s different.”

I’ve learned, playing old school games in online spaces, often as the only woman at the virtual table, that casual and continual use of the word bitch, often to refer to literally every woman encountered in and out of game, is a most excellent red flag for the kind of guy I don’t want to play with.

Now and then? Especially in reference to NPCs who truly suck? Probably okay. But if your default pronoun for a woman is “bitch” we’ve got a problem.
