Anne had seen for herself that it was possible to be an independent thinker, set free from the pattern of sinful Eve or patient Griselda. She had been in the company of clever, strong-willed women like the Regent Margaret of Austria and Margaret of Navarre. The influence of evangelism had enabled women of character to take an alternative path, one that offered Anne Boleyn a different future.”
On this day in 1536 Anne Boleyn, Queen consort of England, second wife of Henry VIII, mother to Queen Elizabeth the first, was executed for treason and adultery, none of the charges against her were true. Her life (and her death) and her faith changed the history of England, her influence on the nation was like no other queen had before and would have afterwards. She was a strong, modern, hight spirited woman, and yet a not perfect one. She fought all her life, for herself, her station, her freedom, her marriage, her child, her faith, her beliefs, in a society where a woman was not supposed to think or to speak for herself and yes, ultimately she lost everything, but her memory still lives.
