She was never able to believe a lot of things. That one of her fathers was a vampire, much less a harmless vampire, at that. That magic could have such a strong presence in tandem with what she considered normal. That she would be consumed by the culture and workings around it. But Violet was more open-minded now than she was, always ready to look at something from a new angle.
So when her older father called what she had spotted off in the distance, “strange,” she didn’t know what to make of it. If, in all that time he had gone after Duckula, he had never seen those shades over the sides of the hills, then how would they be able to prepare for what they meant?
“Do you think this could be some sort of astronomical event, Otto?” She felt it in her bones. There was something malicious in their wake, but the hummingbird would stay open-minded. “The sun doesn’t usually hit the hills like this.”
