《Tumaini, that is his name》
Tumaini: Whore.
September: You say that as if it's a bad thing. At least I have a good reputation of not being a disappointment.

slow starts
the first week is always hard. my internal clock is still eight hours behind, leaving me groggy during the day and wide eyed at night. and today i had my first bout of diarrhea, as my stomach has completely forgotten the traditional kenyan foods after being away for eight months. i’ve only taken two full-out showers since i’ve arrived, and have slept until the late afternoon hours many days so far.
living in africa with friends that are practically family is a privilege. being able to speak Truth in Love as we weave in and out of the mundane tasks of the day-to-day is an honor i feel unworthy of. but i gotta be honest — traveling internationally takes a toll on me.
my body changes time zones, diet, cultural norms, environment, and routine in just a couple of days, and making all these transitions is overwhelming. i want so badly just to dive in, keenly aware of how short my time here is, but it’s nearly impossible to make leaps physically, emotionally, and spiritually in a fast-paced manner.
and so i pray and listen to music and read and pray some more, asking God to use my time to add souls to His Kingdom, even if that means taking some of it to adjust. i’ve been particularly aware of my own humanity this trip, and realize it’s okay to rest my body so that i can serve well.
His strength is made perfect in weakness, and so i lean into that Truth as i ease myself into the stark yet subtle rhythms of kenya.
Tumaini: Will you at least tell me where we're going?
September: No, I'm too busy breathing.
Tumaini: Aren't you going to search me? I could have anything in my pants.
September: Well clearly, nothing impressive.
Grace: Follow your dreams
Ryouichi: Make memes
Tumaini: Ay macarena!
