Tumblr on Fanlore: DashCon
Before it became synonymous with disastrously bad organisation, DashCon was known as Tumbl-Con. The 2014 fan-run convention was renamed after the Tumblr dashboard - and became part of internet infamy.
It aimed to be the "largest gathering of Tumblr users to date", a safe space for them to "collaborate and connect". Instead, DashCon debuted to dozens of problems including misused funds, panel and guest cancellation, and woefully low attendance. Its enduring legacy was an image of a deflating ball pit which became a meme.
