I feel like a lot of people either forgot or weren't here a while ago when tumblr introduced the whole "safe search" option without really informing people of what it was
Automatically you had the safe search feature forced on and everything tagged as "inappropriate" was removed from your dashboard. The problem was that random posts that werent in any way "inappropriate" were being tagged and a lot of people couldn't see them. The quick fix was that you could go into your settings and turned safe search off and see everything again. It was annoying and inconvenient, but we all were able to fix the problem fairly easily.
What's happening now is the same exact thing except you dont have the option to turn this new blocking thing off. Tumblr is using the same exact broken system to save their ass without actually fixing anything. You shouldn't be celebrating this. Tumblr doesnt give two shits about protecting people from explicit content or trying to clean up their site, they're just trying to save face and get the app back on the app store. Sure its removed some things that were issue, but the real problems, like the porn bots, are still running rampant.
For example, the character from Overwatch Ana Amari has had her tag taken away because it contains the word "ana." A lot of LGBT people are seeing their content taken down for very questionable reasons. And then theres people that literally have nothing even remotely inappropriate or against the rules seeing their posts flagged for no reason at all.
I've been on this site for around 7 years now and this is the worst blunder I've seen by this sorry excuse for a website. Honestly I hope they lose a lot of users for this. Enough so that they finally notice the problems and get to the root of the issue rather than fucking over their userbase even more than usual. I hope I get my blog deleted for this post so I can finally be rid of this hellhole for good.
