#Week 8 Research - Interview Questions

Looking at the finished matrix I realized that it will be a big help when it was time to write my final research paper. This matrix well organized my sources with the corresponding research question and I don’t have to worry about creating my APA citations last minute. I’m glad that I have 4 sources out of 16. I’m ready to move on to the next assignment!

#Week5 In my feels

1. This week we were tasked with finding a research article on our topic using EBSCO through the UTEP library. I followed the steps given to us from the library website and filled in the appropriate fields. At this point I felt like I didn’t know what I was doing but I have done research before so I knew I would be able to do it!

2. After I entered the appropriate information it gave me a couple of results. After reading a couple of the abstracts I decided on one article. 

3. The next task that we had to complete was saving it to our Dropbox. I use Dropbox all the time so I had no problem uploading it. 

4. Now I am officially done with the process and I feel good about it. Never using EBSCO I felt a little uneasy about it but the process was pretty simple!

#Week5

Feeling annoyed and frustrated I have to do this Tumblr Tuesday.. 

STEP # 1: Go to the link that Audrey provided in the Tumblr instructions under the week 5 folder, so far its easy..

I was then redirected to the webpage below:

After looking at the homepage I felt a bit overwhelmed by all the tabs and all the information on it, taking another look, I see that the homepage is well organized and very helpful. There is instructions and tips on how to get around the website and how to get access to the university’s databases.

STEP # 2: Click on the tab “Academic Search Complex”, it took me some time to figure out where it was located....

STEP # 3: Once again the website is very helpful, there is red outlining to point out exactly what everything means and what to do to get your desirable source...

Okay I read the instructions along with the images showing me how to search in EBSCO, I feel prepared and confident, i can do this #justdoit. Fifteen minutes pass.. I CAN’T FIND THE LINK TO THE ACTUAL DATABASE IN THE WEBSTE. I spent time mastering where everything is what everything means in the database but when Im finally ready i cant access it. I get frustrated and start clicking everywhere within the text..

STEP # 4: Then I clicked on the blue font and it redirected me to the database... I felt so stupid...

I then searched my topic and one article came out... I was so disappointed so i kept searching for my specific topic and nothing came out until I switched from “Boolean phase” to “Smart Text”. I typed in my topic and many options came out. But then I remembered.. it had to be a scholarly  (peer reviewed) journal so that only gave me one source.#thestruggle 

The results I kept on getting..

Then I looked closely and I selected an option of Smart Text Searching, that gave me the option to enter as much text as I wanted.

STEP #5 I read many abstracts to save myself some time, finally found one!! I checked the date it was published and the amount of pages and everything was #allgood.

Unfortunately this article wasn’t available to download,so I had to  bookmark it and just save the article in the database.... #dealwithit

FINALLY DONE, at this point I was glad I got a hold of an awesome source to do my research on! Now i can go back to binge watching Korean dramas...

Week 9:

As you can see above I already sent out my email, lets hope for my sake that I get an answer soon.

I now have to save the interview release from to my Db.

As you can see its now saved in Db, and I can continue.

Now the next step is to create the interview questions and thats exactly what I am going to do.

#Week7

My major: Criminal Justice

Advising information:

....As stated above advising is only done by appointment. 

Now that I've found all that information about my college, I now have to find 3 scholars that I can possibly interview later on and help me with my own research.

SIKE....

I decided to pick Dr.Jeff Rojek because as stated in his bio some of his primary areas of study are officer decision making tactical events and racial bias in traffic stops. Which I know for a fact that asking him a couple of questions related to these topics can help my research answer  the aspect of what the law enforcement community is about.

I choose Dr. Theodore Curry as his area of study is focused on why immigration tends to suppress crime at the individual and neighborhood level. Which can help my research by stating how is the diversity of people in their community and how it is that people from law enforcement go about it.

I also chose Dr. Leanne Alarid as one of my three scholars that I will need to interview as one of her areas of studies is about the criminology theory which can ultimately contribute with my research as is the theory that many people go by as values within this community.

#week 5: How I feel about this research process

1.First of all I went over the instructions that were provided for us on BB and to be honest I was a bit overwhelmed. But I decided to keep my cool and go for it.

2. The first step was to click on the URL that was provided for us. The image below was what came up, I have to be honest I was panicking a little since it was a lot of information.

3.I finally found the correct tab, I have to admit it, it gave me really good info and made it easier for me.

At this point I'm feeling pretty good as everything is falling into place. The only worry of mine now is that I have to find a great article but then again I'm sure they are all. I can do this.

4. After closely searching for the correct article, I think i found the one. So i decided to check it out more.

I FOUND IT.

5. This article fits perfect to my semester topic. I feel like less weight on my shoulders. Now I have to download,read, and upload this ASAP. Now I opened  the full text in order to download it.

6. Then I remembered that my awesome instructor said to please upload it to dropbox and why would I skip this step? I mean I can't.
