Katsuki wasn’t sure how he was able to recognize Shinsou, what with the wig, the makeup, and the lighting in the club. Not to mention the change in her demeanor and the outfit that he knew wasn’t Shinsou’s style, no matter how good it looked on her.
Still, through all of that, he could instantly tell it was her. That was Shinsou on the other side of the dance floor. And now Katsuki really, really wanted to blow something up.
‘Got an assignment. If you see me this week, no you didn’t.’
That was the brief message Shinsou had left in the former Class A group chat before going radio silent a few days ago. It was a familiar message coming from her, and the meaning was straightforward enough. Shinsou was going undercover, and should any of them come across her, they were to treat her as if she were a stranger. She’d let everyone know when it was okay to contact her again.
Up until then, Katsuki had never encountered Shinsou when she was undercover. As he covertly observed her over the rim of his glass he was pretending to drink from, he had to admit it was pretty jarring.
There she was, sidled up to some greaseball in a booth. She was playing the man like a fiddle, if the way the seedy fuck was drooling over her was any indication. It was fascinating just how different this persona was from how she usually acted. All the little mannerisms down to the way she laughed and the set of her shoulders was different. It was like a full transformation had taken place. Now, Katsuki had heard the rumors, had seen some of her work himself. He knew that Shinsou was damn good at her work, especially her undercover work, but he didn’t realize just how good she was at disappearing into her roles until now.
It was impressive, and yet something unpleasant boiled in Katsuki’s gut. Outrage, perhaps, as he watched her interact with her target. As he watched the target interact with her.
The hand creeping up her thigh.
The slobbering, leering face invading her space.
The hand resting on the back of her fucking neck.
He knew Shinsou. He’d like to think that he knew her pretty damn well (and fuck, how he wanted to know even better). So he knew just how much she hated being touched, especially so publicly, and by a stranger on top of it all.
Yet Shinsou stayed astoundingly calm, not so much as flinching. Because she had a job to do, and she was damn good at her job.
And maybe that was the worst part of it to Katsuki, that Shinsou’s work would take her here, to a nightclub she’d never go to, in clothes she’d never wear, allowing things she never would if she weren’t a good hero that walked a brutal fucking path that even the best of the daylight heroes could never imagine braving. It frustrated him that he couldn’t go over there and pry the bastard away from her, check on her, take her somewhere that was quiet and safe. Shinsou had a job to do, and Katsuki had no choice but to let her do it. Any interference would risk all her hard work, belittle her capabilities, and he wasn’t about to do that.
He forced himself to look away, shoving his way through the crowd until he tracked down his friends who’d managed to drag him out that night. He grabbed Kirishima by the shoulder, spinning him around to face him.
“Round up the rest of the idiots, we’re leaving,” Katsuki said, shouting over the music and the furious pounding of his heart.
“What? But we just got here…” Kirishima trailed off, likely having seen something in Katuski’s expression. His expression grew concerned, but he nodded, going to find the rest of their group.
Katsuki didn’t spare Shinsou another glance as he and his friends left the club, he didn’t trust himself not to act recklessly if he had to take in that sight a second time. The best he could do was leave her to her work, to trust that she had everything under control, to do as she had asked of them.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in this hellhole country lmao I've got some drabbles for you to munch on! I'll be posting them all individually and then compile them into a masterlist after.
I've got five in total and some of them are a little spicy so heed the warnings.
Finally got to try some of the holiday season food offerings at Knott's! The Turkey Bites are the size of softballs and made with cornbread stuffing, cranberries, apples, and turkey then covered in gravy. Crunchy on the outside and moist inside. Mmmm good! Chicken and beef tamales (chicken and green salsa was better). Holiday elote was ok, bit needed more toppings. The boysenberry festival version is better.
