I took my spindle to the park today

My new spindle from Studio Spintol finally arrived (a few weeks ago at this point) and it is everything I dreamed of!

Get a Turkish spindle, they said. You can ply right from the turtle, they said. You can take it on the bus, they said (I said that, to myself).
Switching between these two feels so wild with how different the weight is because of their size

Today was dedicated to the alpaca on the drop spindle. I pulled the turtle (On a Turkish spindle, like the one I've got, that's the name for the wound ball of yarn. It kinda looks like a turtle, especially when it's bigger!) off, and using the turtle as a center pull ball plied it right back onto the spindle. I'm addicted, it's so easy. Pics of me disassembling and pulling off the two ply below if you're curious how it works.
First the crossed wood section comes off the central shaft. Then the smaller wooden arm of the x slides off, which lets the yarn shift off the larger wooden arm of the x. Then flip the yarn turtle over and tug at the bottom, and if you wound it on correctly as you spun you now have a nice center pull ball! Huzzah!
Next up, while I do want to spin more alpaca I do want some brighter yarn for a project, so I'm going to hunt my fiber stash and see what I want to use for that.
Tour de Fleece Day 12:
Spun until the thread started breaking from (presumably) the weight and stopped. No idea why this spindle keeps calling the shots on how much I can spin on it, but not feeling like being frustrated about it.
We try something else tomorrow.
No, I have not fixed the printer yet. Yes, I know it would be less than half an hour. This is about spinning, not 3D printing.

This is from FibreBitsandBeyond on Etsy. It’s 3D printed and designed to be a cross between a supported spindle and a Turkish spindle. I’ve never used either, so this is exciting.
