Turn Key Healing Necklace Charm

inspired by the game Gingiva

In the game Gingiva, the titular character, Gingiva - a girl with a turn key for a head - has the ability to spin her head using the “Z” button on the keyboard, refilling a bit of her health. It works only outside of combat, and works to heal completely in a pinch if you’re patient. This is a charm inspired by that mechanic that is designed to heal and bring energy to you in a pinch.

You will need:

clay of some sort (I used Sculpey polymer clay)

yellow or gold paint + a paintbrush

paper towels/old newspaper/paper plates (so as not to stain your workspace with clay and/or paint)

baking tray + an oven (if you are baking your clay)

optional: a small drill + a necklace chain; your preferred method of charging

Instructions with pictures under the cut.

Step 1:

Get your clay and set up your workspace! I used a bunch of paper towels + a paper plate on my dining room table to keep the clay off the table.

Step 2:

Start rolling your clay to get the wrinkles out! I gathered mine and rolled it into a ball in the palm of my hands.

After that, start shaping it! Take three pieces and roll them out into worm-like tube shapes. Make sure one piece is longer than the other two - this one will be the stem, while the other two are the handles. This is the part where, while working, I focus my intent to cleanse the clay to infuse it with my energy.

Step 3:

Push the parts on your main stem that the handle parts connect to a little bit in, as an indent to show where the handles will go.

Remember to keep a little tab at the top for your key to look like a key!

Step 4:

Attach your handles! If you need, get a tiny cup/bowl of water to soften your clay around the contact point so it sticks easier. Make sure to rub it down so no cracks show!

Now your key actually looks like a key!

Step 5 (if you are baking your clay):

Set your key onto your baking tray (a standard cookie tray works just fine) and heat your oven based on your clay’s instructions. With Sculpey clay, I heated my oven to 275f (135c) degrees. Once your oven is heated, pop your clay into the oven and cook, again, based on your clay’s instructions (15 minutes for mine).

As it bakes, check on it every so often to make sure it’s not cracking and not at risk of exploding. If you did everything right, it should be totally fine.

*if you’re using air dry clay, just sit it out for a while and let it harden!

Step 6:

Once your clay is dried and cooled (make sure it’s cooled!), it’s time to paint! Get your paintbrush and yellow (happiness, healing, energy) or gold (healing, magic, inspiration) paint and pour some of it onto a napkin or plate you have lying around (as to not stain your workspace). Dip your paintbrush in it and start painting your key! Here is where I focus my energy again; this time, for infusing it with the properties of the color I am painting it with. (I ended up repeating “this will heal me, rejuvenate me, give me energy” in my head over and over while painting.)

Don’t worry if you end up missing a few spots, it happens.

Let your paint dry for a few hours (overnight is best).

Step 7 (optional):

Once your paint is completely dry, you’re going to want to take out your small drill and drill a hole near the bottom of the longer stem of your key. Remember to drill it on the sides of the stem, so your key lays flat!

Once your hole is big enough (but not so big that it cracks your key), stuff the necklace chain through it and pull it around until the key hangs in the middle of the chain.

And that’s it! You have now made your own little charm necklace for healing.

When you have it on and need a little extra boost of energy or clarity, just spin it back and forth a little bit! The energy you have put into it will flow back into you.

Feel free to charge this in your preferred method of charging! I personally prefer natural sunlight for this, but anything non-destructive works as well!
