I feel people might have perhaps sort of missed the expression on Kurebayashi's face as the Company swooped in to pick up the pieces of Hikaru. it's shock. instant regret. she didn't intend for this to happen. and even as she calms down there's this lingering uncertainty that remains. like yes Kurebayashi is a compelling allegory for how queerphobia can present itself in good intentions and kind smiles but that doesn't mean she's necessarily evil. she certainly wasn't planning to doom Hikaru like this--I feel she had anticipated something much more gentle. but that's the thing. the state, the society, the status quo, whatever the Company represents--they don't care what you expect from them. as long as you serve them, they don't have to cater to your requests. they have power. you do not. a lot of people fail to understand this. Kurebayashi fails to understand this.
Kurebayashi is also a person who has already failed once as a mother. this has shaped who she is as a character. but now, as she stands above Hikaru, about to be carted away to be used for the Company's purposes, she has failed once more. she failed by letting Iori get too close to an impurity, and now she has failed by letting Hikaru stray too far from Yoshiki. she failed by hurting Iori, and she has failed by hurting Hikaru.
