Summit Sunset . Sun sat for almost an hour behind Mt. Tam, as seen from Mt. Diablo 😎 . After ascending only 2/3rds the way a few weeks ago, I switched up my strategy, had dad drop me off at a closer trailhead, & climbed basically straight up the 2500 feet on the exposed western side of Tuyshtak / Mt Diablo ✊🏼 . So hot. So steep. Burma Road has INSANE inclines—do not recommend for summer! Or with a 40lbs. pack. And bring a few camels’ worth of water 😓 . There is a spring near the top, filled with fish & fish poo. Pumpable, perhaps 🤔 . With the drought, there’s no water at Juniper Camp, so bring your own. I used the last for my morning coffee, knowing I could refill at Junction Station a mile below on the way back. . No wind at all (all night—very unusual!) & warm, so no rainfly needed & could appreciate the bats flying under the bright half moon 🤓👍 . Next day was able to walk all the way to my front door—a pleasant 10.5 mile, mostly-shaded hike past bear / mountain lion traps & many, many oaks. . Very few people out both days, & only a couple at Juniper Camp. Body so sore, but adventure & views so worth it 🤓👍 .
