So much of the fandom does not get this!😩 Obsessing and squabbling over whose recollections are The Objective Truth, when the answer is, "none of them" (memory doesn't even work like that). And that's the point and central conceit of the show's storytelling method.

And oftentimes his internal narration isn’t charismatic, charming, or funny. A lot of times when he has a particularly dark, paranoid, angry, etc. thought or is doing something terrible his inner voice is dark, cold, and sinister. The voice he switched to when talking to Marienne in his dissociative state? Sometimes it’s that.
The show has really not provided any valid excuse for anyone to buy into Joe’s deluded bs. If you chose to ignore what was always being presented on-screen, that’s on…well, you.
